Hi,
I have an Indian Ringneck called Yogi who is female. Yogi is around 1 years old and she is my best friend
I am a little worried because I have noticed these past few months that she has been loosing a lot of her feathers. Her tail feathers have gone, she's lost most of her wing feathers and there's is feather loss around her neck, her skin is starting to become visible, under her wings, her skin is starting to become visible and bald patch on her head - On her head in the bald patch I can see she has some pin feathers so maybe I should start to see her feathers grow back on her head???? I'm not sure how moulting works
As I have said, she is around 1 years old and I have read that Indian Ringnecks do have a big moult around that age but compared to images of other Indian Ringnecks her moulting seems a lot more severe
She appears to be happy, still chirpy, likes to climb on me (She's not tame, if I try to touch her she will attack me), plays with some of her toys and eats and drinks fine
I do notice however that she is always fiddling with herself, always preening or itching, I've seen her sneeze a few times too
Is this normal and expected when Indian Ringnecks moult or is there the possibility that she has a disease like PBFD - I am scheduling an appointment with the vet to have her checked over but he is not in until Thursday
I am preparing for the worst and I've read that although the disease is not curable, hemp seed is beneficial and can help them stay healthy and even grow feathers back
