So i made a previous thread but i mentioned what i think it was about my birds preeningland, so my bird is molting but i seen now that my bird preens like kind of picks around the preengland and white dust and some white feathers come out, when she does it she shakes her head like something got in her mouth, and it concerns me,and i do not know if she is plucking or molting, and i kind off is repetetive when she starts to preen herself. I gave her a chamomille infused mist bath.

You should be able to tell from the ends of the dropped feathers if they have been plucked out or if they naturally molted out.

Does she have bare spots or places on her body where the feathers look ragged?

Otherwise, feathers do wear out and come out. Cockatiels are specially adapted to live in dry places, and have powder down feathers that break down to release dust and self-clean the bird. This is why people call them dusty birds. It’s normal for them to lose white dust and fluffy feathers.

No she does not gave bare spots, if im right the preengland is the only bald thing she picks on, but otherwise not bald patches or spots on her body

I’m sorry! Parrotlets don’t make powder down, but they do have fluffy under feathers and some similar dust.

If she looks smooth and neat she’s probably not plucking. Feathers do wear out and get replaced.

They sort of “dip into” the preen gland area to get oil and spreed it around on their other feathers.

Yes her whole body is smooth, but if im right she kind of plucks on one area as near as the preengland, she kind of preens hard in it and then she shakes her head and i see some little little white feathers and sometimes white like debris, so should i be worried or is this normal?

They do normally touch the area of the preen gland to get oil on the beak and then spread it around. This is normal.

Can you share a video of what you are seeing this is concerning you? To share a video here you will need to link it from another site like FB, vimeo, Instagram or youtube etc

Even a picture can be helpful. But linking a privet you tube would be excellent.

Do you know your birds weight. Nearly all health issues will show a drop in weight. There are exceptions, but overall is one of our great tools.

Did you share what she eats ?

I do not know really what her Wright is as i dont have a svale at home, i did but it broke, she eats Harrison bird food pellets, and chop of vegtables! She eats normally like she always does, all her behavior is the same and i do not see her show any discomfort, she happy chirps and screams, she preens herself normally, but the one thing that was new was her picking on a spot i hope not is a toumor or maybe the preengland, maybe the itching of a molt could be the cuase but i do not know i will keep an eye on her and give her a chamomille bath agin. But i dont ibis really how to Linn a youtube video, is it possible i could just send a video?

Het everyone! Sorry i coulndt update or anything this week cuase ive been sick, the last fre days my bird is acting fine but she still digs in her back and some dried blood and very very small amount of fresh blood if she keeps digging in it. She is as i said molting, she has pin feathers on her head and white things come out of her feathers, now my concern is that she keeps dig in her back and dried or little blood comes out. I dont inte if she has pin feathers there so they bled i do not know, should i call a vet or do you gave ant experiences with this? I know molting could be uncomfortable in birds, this behavior only started when her molting started.
