Aww look at him! He's so precious! That's wonderful that he's come so farOfficially 3 weeks in and he’s officially the sweetest! Despite being mildly distraught that he is completely smitten with Dad and not mom I’m thrilled with this little bird. He already happily steps up, flys over to us (though not on command by any means), spins for treats, and asks for scratches by putting his head in our hands. He is eating well though was slightly horrified by the introduction of pellets which he deemed far too healthy to be delicious, but we won’t push a big diet overhaul yet. He quite enjoys long evening naps on Dad while watching tv and is getting much more coordinated as he gets more time to play and stretch his muscles outside the cage. Words can’t really express how clumsy/ inexperienced he was 3 weeks ago. Thank you all for putting up with my updates no one has asked for! Thank you! They are both real snuggle bugs…but don’t let them fool you they can be terrors too! Though I can’t honestly say I’d have it any other way.Aw, what sweethearts!![]()
What a lovely update! They are both so preciousWe are well over a month in now and are so excited with the progress! So far they have trained their father to give them millet first thing in the morning and sunflower seeds when he comes home to eat lunch.
But human training aside, the birds are creating a nice little flock of 2. They spend most evenings with long periods of time out together. Though sometimes one or the other has to go take a minute in their cage and retry later. Even that has gotten very unusual as they learn that they can simply fly to the other human. They seem to generally appreciate each other’s company though and often choose to sit close to the other’s cage.
Bo has come a long way physically. When we got him he appeared to have very little muscle tone/ coordination. He would often run into things when trying to fly and did a funny backwards scoot on any uneven surfaces. He now can land basically where he wants to and fly somewhat less chaotically. He has even gained enough dexterity to sit on his perch and play with toys with the other foot. This alone is big as he had no clue what to do with toys until this week. Dobby has chosen my sister to be his favorite person, I am protection and walnut provider.... They choose who they choose but it can sometimes change with time.Day 3 was full of lots of big steps! He now steps up with a little coaxing of sunflower seeds. He has discovered a deep love of head scratches and thinks hands might not be so bad after all. He even took a shower with Dad and quite happily stood under the warm water to get all clean. He’s singing a lot which is very cute. The only downside is it’s looking like he’s going to be a Daddy’s bird! View attachment 413030 View attachment 413031
