Why would you keep birds in the basement? The point of parrots is to DO stuff with them.

So I guess maybe it’s a quiet place to have babies, but what is the Amazon doing there?
None of them were their breeder birds all ones they were selling except 2 they said. Seems they use them as the "example" birds to keep the people from being called on them for things like Elvira. I'm just glad she's here. I bet they thought she was to old so they got rid of her jokes on them should have taken better care of her and she would have made u even more money because she is still a teenager! Now she gets to be a bird and boy do we have plans!!! We've got a whole life to live together and a bird backpack to buy! She's got dogs to yell at and we're going to be taking lots of trips to anywhere together. I usually take a dog but y not take her! She loves car rides!!!

Aww :swoon:
Man I wish my yellow shoulder liked me :unsure1:
Awe I'm sorry idk how I got so lucky. Well then again she's been in a cage at least 6 years so I'd not exactly use that method. She'll step up on my hand to get out but then I have put the little cage in front of her to get her to go back because she doesn't want to do it again. Then again she's not the most stable on my arm or hand so I think that's the biggest problem with that part. I hope yours comes around

Thank you for taking her in.

Did you get any foot toys?
Like the ones u put on the bottom of the cage? She got quite a few that hang none for the bottom they didn't have any of those. Any suggestions on which ones to try? I Amazon a ton of stuff so if anyone has a link to some good options then please put them as she needs some. It's like she loses balance but she has great grip so the vet said she'll be ok in the big cage.

Also wanting to know about cage cleaners I've been using vinegar but so something safe that might not smell like feet bout to clean this whole cage so my house is about to be the smelliest

I really like poop off but vinegar gets the lime that might not come off otherwise. I would use rinsing and poop off first, rinse, and sanitize with diluted bleach or slightly diluted vinegar.

I am hoping you got some answers about her health today.

I don't use bleach really here I think it's worse with the smell and it seems like it could hurt everyone more. Guess I'm sticking to the vinegar I use it to clean everything that's related to all my animals because it takes the smell out and it's safe. I sometimes use alcohol wipes but never on the birds things because idk if it's safe. It freaks me out using things to clean their still because they have it in their mouths all the time. I'm beat and I really want her cage clean to get her in it but I can't seem to get up. Would it make me a bad mama to make her wait til tomorrow? I hate the idea but I really just want to lay down

Remember that vinegar has harsh fumes, too. Concentrated vinegar fumes bother me more than dilute bleach; so I still use diluted bleach in the closed bathroom with the fan on.

Alcohol wipes are safe. The smell/ fumes I would think are not so good for birds. But alcohol evaporates not leaving residue behind.

I rely on poop-off to remove the worst soil from cages and toys. You need to rinse it off but it’s not very stinky and it really loosens dried poops.

I think that getting some sleep and leaving her in her travel cage would be totally ok. I mean she’s going to be sleeping.

Whoops!! I missed your new post today. I am REALLY GLAD she doesn’t have an infection.

From my Quaker’s experience, resorbing the yolk from the eggs is very hard on the liver. If her lipids got really high maybe she did have a stroke or blockage? Poor thing. When my girl got sick we were at the emergency vets that night and next day at the bird vet. It was the most stressful and upsetting thing to see my girl go through. After that we did Lupron at least a couple times and altered the things about her cage that were making her broody.

I am so glad you’ve got her and I hope you can improve her diet and give her many happy years. You’re both very lucky!! And she’s a nice bird, too.

I don't use alcohol or bleach. Birds are constantly putting their tongue on things. Oddly, I use water, hot water if in the house. I also use the good old sun and leave the cage to sit outside and bake a while. Amazing the properties of the sun.

For baby humans....cleaning things they use like a tub? I use vinegar and maybe bacon soda. I'm not going to let their skin absorb chemicals..... they're tiny little ones.

If poo is dried in your cage, put a wet paper towel on it (when bird is out with you or on a playstand). Wait a while (we hang out, watch tv, etc.). Go back, poo wipes away.

Most folks on here use F10. It can be bought concentrated so you must dilute it or a regular way. PLEASE check out the threads on cleaning. I can search and send links if you've no time to look.

As to toys? We have fabulous vendors here on the forums and the toy cost is reasonable. Check them out. I'll look for Secret's favorite and tag you.

When I first got my amazons I bought toys from all over.... then I learned leather could be tanned the wrong way and not safe. Colored wood might be done with UNSAFE coloring. The clips to the toys that hang in the cage could be dangerous.

Thanks I needed to feel like I wasn't being a bad mama I did let her out for a bit last night so it's better than she's had in years I suppose. She got to stay in her little cage on the car while I got it cleaned out too so she even got a little outside time. It's finally Friday so today, tomorrow and Sunday are cleaning days and spending the good time with everyone days so it'll be fine. I usually just soak everything in the tub with vinegar on the weekends so I think I'll just stick to that for now cause it works. I actually use it to shampoo my carpet as well, I learned it from having a really old cat (21) I took in he's passed but he pooped everywhere and now the deaf puppy has so many health issues and the person didn't tell me she was deaf so she kept peeing is how I found out and then she apparently has chronic UTI so we shampoo carpets like every other day. I know it's safe and works so I'll deal with it . Tomorrow we find out about half of the tests so I'm excited and worried cause I believe these r the ones that tell if she can be in the same area as the other birds so she can get into her real spot. (no plans to let her out with the others because she's so big at least not until I know she's tame enough to grab if she gets out of line or they did, bridge for another day) I just want her to have someone to talk to during the day while I'm at work so she's not all alone. I'll be looking at the toys this weekend when I've finally got time. I can actually do leather work so I might start making them myself so I know what's in them. I really appreciate all the help and support we need it. Any links to anything would be appreciated as right now I don't have time to search and when I don't never seem to find anything that's related lol maybe I am doing it wrong. We've got some work to do and hopefully she's in great health so we can get started

As to leather? The danger is how it was tanned. That's done by whoever you buy the leather from.

The issue is some folks that make toys for birds don't realize the danger. When I first got amazons I didn't know to ask the person who made the toy how the LEATHER THEY USED was tanned. If they don't know, don't buy that toy. Simple as that.

I would start your amazon with a piece or two of balsa, basswood, soft pine and maybe a piece of two of cardboard. That helps to show what she prefers.

MC became gloomy on me once. I had bought a lightweight toy for Secret and she didn't need it. I put it in his cage and WHAM! I realized then they really need something from time to time that they can DESTROY to make them feel good.

I'll be sure to ask at the leather store when I get it. I think I got her a cardboard toy. I just got home a bit ago so I haven't had time to do much but tend the dogs and get her out really. I felt bad she was in the cage still so here we are she's the sweetest!!! Was a great decision!!! Are the backpacks safe for them? Or can an older bird be taught to wear a harness? She really liked her trips in the car and sitting in the cage on the car while I was cleaning it. She wants to cuddle into me while she's on me it's so sweet!!

So she smells like my cockatoo used to. I think that's the musky smell y'all were talking about if that's it I like it! I assume it is just the noise they make naturally but she has the sweetest cooing. It's putting me sleep . I'm exhausted from the work week and from all her running around and unfortunately she is going to have to spend one more night in the cage but I'm totally good with it this time because she really got some good loving and time today that I think she's enjoying so much! I think she leost some of her muscles and she's using them now so she's already getting better at standing up on me. Maybe her feet hurt from holding the bars because she had no other choice than that or the sand perch. I think we're going to go get something to eat and then I'm probably going right to bed because I'm just worn slick. Tomorrow everyone gets their love and time while I finish cleaning this house and getting her things put together. Sorry so many posts but I'm so happy and proud!!!

I strongly encourage no shoulder time.

You're on the honeymoon period right now and when reality hits, you can lose part of your face.
