Can I order the almonds on Amazon that are safe? She's not exactly the best with the greens she'll pick out everything else and might eat 1. I have to get veggies again and idk y I didn't get any broccoli last time as I always do but hopefully she'll go for those.
You want almonds that are unsalted. You can buy those many places. Pretty soon the new crop of almonds in the shell will start appearing at the grocery. Again you want unsalted. It is great for her to have to work a bit for her food - foraging! If the hard shells of the grocery store ones are a bit too hard for her you can start them with a nutcracker or buy her softshell ones. They are called "nonpariel" variety, in-shell, and they are even easy for you to crack with your fingers. The in-shell nonpariels can be hard to find.
My BFAs both were crazy for the thick stems of red beet leaves, give the whole stem in one piece but only once a week tops because they are high in oxalates. Try a 2-inch piece of celery, and some snap peas in the pod. Try carrots raw -cut into sticks and rounds, and cooked carrots. Amazons seem to often have vitamin A deficiencies which you can safely help by giving the precursor beta-carotene found in carrots, broccoli, red peppers. One of my Amazons likes red bell pepper pieces, the other of course must have whole minipeppers.
She LOVES hard boiled eggs but how much is a safe amount? I usually let her have about a quarter or less of it at a time because I get scared of her getting to much of things. She can eat all the veggies she'll consume as far as the vet said but I forgot to ask about the egg when she called. I'll start giving her a piece of the walnut a day if it's safe. She was getting that seed mix stuff with sunflower seeds which she might get a tiny bit of maybe til whatever is left is gone. It's just some cheap Walmart stuff that's for cockatiels I think.
Vets now prefer parrots to get non-animal protein. But personally mine love scrambled eggs every few weeks, and I give a piece about quarter-sized. They do like unsalted beans I cook for them from dried and freeze into portions. Garbanzo/chickpeas, pinto, and white navy beans are the favorites here.
Any idea how to get her to play with toys? She's got plenty of them but she never touches them.
One of my Amazons really likes to rip up pine /wood pieces and the other likes shredders like seagrass mats and mahogany pods. You need to try an assortment of textures and see what they like. You can start with balsa which she will find easy to demolish and progress from there. Mahogany pods are very easy also and an interesting shape.
She must have been abused or something because she shakes like I'm going to be mean to her then I tell her pet your head and then she comes and calms down. She's doing well but the little things just break my heart. She's so sweet but she's definitely got her boundaries and she will let me know with a firm beak but never hurt that she doesn't want to do something. She'll move my hand away from her if I want her to step up and she doesn't want to which seems fine but I just don't want her to think she can do it all the time. She's only allowed to get out when she steps up though so I don't think we will have a terrible go at it
She has been with you such a short time and so much is new to her. Really, just slow down and take things at her pace. My male BFA was never abused but he had a real hard patch when his mom got Alzheimers. Initially he didn't even know what a perch was and couldn't fly. It took 9 months till I could touch him. He blossomed at his own pace.
