Standing in the corner is a thing. Let me go search threads.
I appreciate it. It seems sad to me that she wants to be like that. Maybe I just know that she's been in there and feel bad about it. She didnt even get a toy I have one in the car I really got for nugget but she's getting it now. She needs something in there until she gets a nice cage tomorrow.

She was digging her beak into the bars of the black cage pretty hard. I almost wonder if her beak hurts the way she was doing it.. maybe she is just birding around

Read this old thread. I'm thinking she's just apprehensive and scared, she's somewhere new.

That's probably a zon thing.

Secret rips her beak across the bars and back. Picture a guy in an old jail cell in a western movie and he has that metal cup he's dragging back and forth.

I'm almost positive that the corner stand is a protective/safe stance for them. Secret was in a round cage for years and it messed with her head.... she actually does loops in her cage when she's flustered now. Rarely, rarely happens now.

Remember the amazon will feed off your emotions. If you are calm, she will feel it. If you are panicky..... well, you'll see. Watch the eyes, watch the tail flares. They're easy to read (except when they are sneaky and there are a few here on the forum that may have developed that).

Sounds like the poor girl might have had egg yolk peritonitis and didn’t get it treated right. That’s very dangerous and yes, it can look almost like a stroke. It’s really scary. My Quaker had that 17 yrs ago.

Or, maybe a shelled egg is retained?
She needs to be checked for infection (cbc). Wow. I can’t believe she wasn’t treated for this.

She was standing in the corner the entire time we were there and all except when we were in the car she went down once. She'll let me pet her head while she's there. It's almost like she can't put her legs together..... Could she really have an egg or something stuck in there that long? I put things in her cage now and she's still with her legs apart but half on a part of the perch...... I'm so glad we see the vet tomorrow because Im worried. Is the

Is this something that can last for months without death? Do they act like something is stuck? Maybe idk her well enough but seems uncomfortable. I just hope they can fix her if there's something.

She's been very calm and so have I. She's came out and been preening but she's back in now because it's bedtime. It's like she wants out but really seems like she can't keep her legs together.... She's got less than a day until she sees the vet thankfully. I would assume she's fairly old as well because she had her at least 6 years but it seems like she was saying she had had her even longer.

O so she said she came from a dude in Florida that is supposed to be some known breeder (I have no idea about breeders of anything really so I have no idea) also said she was a handfed baby which I I guess whomever she got her from told her or she's lives her life in the cage. Idk the whole thing is breaking my heart. I just hope she's ok til the vet time tomorrow. That's all she's got to do is last til then so she can get all fixed up. She does love her head scratched. I put some of the zupreem pellets in her cage for now in the morning I'm going to put some of the other foods she came it's in there just cause it's bedtime.

So glad you're taking her to an avian vet tomorrow.

There is always hope. Remember that.

My avian vet told me that MC wouldn't survive a second surgery (can't remember what the survival percentage was) but I took him to the University of Illinois. They did amazing testing on him. The vet there was able to remove a tumor that was involved in his blood. The threads are on here and would provide details to you if needed, I just don't want to look at them.

If she’s survived this long I think she has a good chance of not having a bad infection, or even not having an infection at all. I think an unbroken egg could be at the top of the oviduct and still allow droppings to pass out. Or I wonder if some nerve damage or pain could have her walking strangely?

Mostly I’m disturbed that she’s waddling two months after the incident. And I wonder what treatment she may have received, if any. This is a strange situation. Who wouldn’t treat this?! Ack!

I'm fully committed to trying to save her and get her healthy and my vet is amazing so I really think she has a shot if there's an option to make her healthy. I'm so worried about what's going on. We go at 430 today and I'm so scared of her dieing before I get home (I'm sure she can last another 8 hrs if she's lasted 4 or 5 months) but u never know. I just hope if it's super costly the vet will work with me on paying it and let me make payments if I need to and take her home. She doesn't deserve to be this way she should have been to a vet 4 or 5 months ago when this happened. By the way can anyone explain what a brooder is? I don't breed birds and they said they put her in a brooder for 2 months and I'm just curious what that really means.

A brooder is like the next step up from an incubator. Basically an enclosed space that can be kept to a certain temperature (with a lamp or a warming plate or whatever) to help chicks stay warm before they are fully feathered.

I can't believe a *breeder* would not use any veterinary care! Especially on a proven breeding yellow shoulder, they are actually rather rare!!
That's so disgusting :sad11:

It really is. They have some birds there with no toys in the cages and in cages as small as my green cheek originally had (most were green cheeks) but they were in pairs in them. They had 3 different babies 1 was in I guess what a brooder box would be that was a cricket keeper really with stuff in the bottom because it was handfed and they didn't have anymore of the "breeder birds" there because they "didn't have space" and they were the moms birds that were kept at her house even though it was a HUGE house the birds all but 1 were kept in a very small room with cages on these tables in the basement and 1 very tame Amazon that was in an appropriate size cage for the most part but y r u keeping them in this finished basement in a little room? There wasn't a radio or anything on for them just there in cages. Idk I'm dumfounded by the way people treat animals. I don't have a lot of money and certainly not the biggest house but I know I take good care of what I've got and get care when needed for sure. I'm beside myself and I really wonder how the other birds r treated.

Why would you keep birds in the basement? The point of parrots is to DO stuff with them.

So I guess maybe it’s a quiet place to have babies, but what is the Amazon doing there?

Well vet did tests be back Saturday and Monday or Tuesday. She was born to a breeder in Texas in 2005. Said she could have had a yolk stroke but it was hard to tell and she was really young for that. She's chubby but not super obese. She said the beak was a concern the way it looks but the blood work might tell more. She said she's pretty certain she's got fatty liver disease but waiting to see. She said the egg stroke would definitely cause those symptoms of the legs though. She wanted to know who it was but I didn't get a name. No visible signs of disease that were infectious she could see but definitely needed to wait on the blood work to be certain. She's definitely a yellow shouldered Amazon she said. I guess she likes me cause she said she was screaming when I left the room to go out to show the food. Hopefully everything is ok so now we wait and see. She got her beak trimmed and got her a big cage. It's used and not really pretty but I figured we should wait then get her the better one when we find out what we're dealing with exactly. There's still a chance she could be healthy I suppose. O and she's got no reason for restrictions because she holds on well so she's going into the big one as soon as I get it cleaned up tonight. We're going to get Me some food and she can have some nutriberries cause she got 2 different bags of them. She got toys and perches of course while we were there. Here's her in the car she's waiting while I take the cage off the car roof . Looks like we get to grow old together hopefully
Fingers crossed prayers if that's your thing and just good vibes miss Elvira comes back with minimal problems!!! 16959414920814165509000556011965.jpg
