Hello fellow bread makers and bakers. I am an avid sourdough baker and have transformed all of my bakeware/cookware to PFA/non toxic since getting birds. I only use ceramic, glass and cast iron. However, I recently have been seeing so many great things about the silicone bread mats used to take loaves of bread in and out of the Dutch ovens. I found one in particular from King Arthur that they verified was PFA/PFOA free. It would be a dream to have a reusable mat instead of using parchment paper but it is not worth the risk of something happening to my babies.
Does anyone have any experience on silicone bakeware or other alternatives to these fancy bread mats?

I believe silicone is safe. If they are verified as being PTFA and PFOA free then I would feel ok about using those mats.

Did you find a safe alternative? If not would love to know what parchment paper you use.

I use silicone baking mats, bags and forms nearly daily in my home. I have a very good quality silicone that is not full of other things it’s just silicone.
I don’t think I’ve used anything disposable for cooking in years.

Can you give links to the products you use? What temperature do you bake at and how far away is your parrot? Thank you

Hey there, pulling this thread back because I’d like to know what brand of silicone baking mat you have. A pastry chef I follow recommends them, as opposed to parchment paper. Thx.

As others have said above, as long as its a high quality silicone verified as PTFA and PFOA free, you shouldn't have an issue. I'd just avoid the cheap no-name silicone bakeware. Best of luck with your baking adventures!

The pastry chef only bakes on silicone mats but I’m hesitant because of the fiberglass. I’ll look for one that’s free of PTFA and PFOA. She won the Chopped Championship on Food Network twice with her chocolate chip cookie recipe. She has lots of reels on FB.
