Please respond! I need to bring my birds to a boarding facility because I'm going away. The air in my area right now is full of wildfire smoke, the air quality right now is a 10, with 11 being the worst. Is there any way I can keep my birds safe in their carrier? Maybe a blanket to cover the grate? We're going in the car but I don't want them getting any more exposure to and from the car and just in general than is absolutely unavoidable.

I was going to suggest a wet sheet or light towel. By wet I mean saturate the cloth and wring it out well. Not dripping wet. Once in the vehicle, make sure that ventilation is set so that it is recirculating the inside air and not drawing from the outside.
