I definitely think they can adjust, but I also think it depends on the individual bird. Puffy and the GCC I used to have could not sleep well with any ambient noise or light. They'd both whine and move around constantly. The cockatiels could sleep through a tornado :laugh: They slept through the plumber hacksawing a hole in our wall a few days ago!

Mango sleeps in our master bedroom. She has two large A&E cages - one in our bedroom and one in the living room, so she hangs out wherever I am, and sleeps with us when I sleep. I have an air purifier that makes a very nice, very loud white noise and my room is dark, so Mango can sleep roughly from 9:00 to 9:00. I just close the door behind me when I wake in the morning.

I think yes, 12 hours is a must and makes a huge difference in their disposition.
I'll pull out some research and share it tomorrow on UVA/b. Too sleepy right now!
