We got Laura (our fully flighted rainbow lorikeet) new cage since her old one was way too small! It came with dowel perches and plastic bowls, but we removed them since dowel perches can cause numerous foot problems and plastic bowls can grow bacteria very easily. We will be also be adding SS food and water bowls, more toys and more perches very soon but so far has:
-3 Natural Branch Perches
-1 Toy
-2 Cuttlefish Bones That Are Roughly The Size Of A Budgie Each

Dimensions Of New Cage: 138cm(h) x 65cm(w) x 43.5cm(d)
Dimensions Of Old Cage: 56cm(h) x 46cm(w) x 36cm(L)

Link to cage (we are using it without the stand): You & Me Bird Flight Cage On Wheels Medium Petbarn

You can use the dowels as long as she has a variety of other perches and the dowel is not her main or only perch :)

I bet Laura will love the extra room that cage has.

I think that cage might be the same size and type as Squeaks cage but I got mine from cheap as chips I think it was.

I am a little curious about where you have it if it is not on the stand.... is it directly on the floor?

We will put it on top of a table so she is still higher up and feels safe.

Yes :) Just put the dowel lower down with the natural ones higher.

That´s a nice cage - I´m sure she´ll love it :bliss:

So does this mean that this is Lauras main and only home now?

Though the downside to this is that those wooden dowel perches are a bee-yahtch to clean and putting them as the low perches means they will get very messy! I’d just invest in a few new perches or use PVC pipe and some vet wrap to the make the secondary perch. I just hate cleaning those wood dowel ones—but that may be a “Me“ thing, lol!

The dowels are easy to ¨clean¨ but yeah they do stain and get gross.
However Amber says she has more perches on order so they will be fine temporarily. Usually those cages come with two or three so can use one, and just toss it after a week, put a new one in and so on until the new perches arrive - no cleaning needed ;)
