I have always lurked around here to look for advises on birds, fun facts, etc. But since I do have a few questions of my own, I figured it's time to make an account here and here I am!

You can call me Lapis (Just a nickname friends like to call me by!)

I am a mother to...

Indian Ringneck named Melon:

Melon's story: She (not sure on gender but I'm just guessing...) is a rescue. In Hawaii, we have wild Indian Ringnecks that fly around, I had found her around when she was either 3-4 months with a broken wing while I was walking home from work one day, I didn't know how to properly care for a broken wing, let alone I had never had a parrot before, so I had taken her to the nearest vet; (luckily that vet happened to have an avian specialist who was not a very nice person.) the doctor told me because the Indian Ringnecks are invasive, they cannot tend to it and let it go back into the wild, they had also told me that even if the wing heals and I let the bird go, the bird will never be able to fly like it had once did... They had given me the option to take it home and keep it as a pet or have it put to sleep) And of course I knew that owning a parrot was going to be a lot of work but i decided to take her in as my new family member. I had went to a different Avian Vet after taking her home, because she was not eating (due to the fact she was never used to being a pet or in a cage), the vet had tended to her wing, and gave me some anti-biotics for her. I had then nursed her back to health. Her wing is healed (but because she had that broken wing for a few days before I found her and the vet had clipped her wings because he said since she was wild, it's probably better for her for now... (I don't like to clip my bird's wings normally... but..)

Melon was on found on May 2nd 2016.

her doctor told me she is still a juvenile at the time I found her (so I'm really not sure about her age.......)

She is somewhat Harness trained so she will give us hell when we put it on, but after its on, she'll nimble it but leave sit alone.

Four Budgies: Pee-chan, Meringue, Smokey (they are boys), and Cotton (the only girl but has a big attitude): I only have a picture of Smokey for now, bc the other three budgies are not tamed and they were given to me because the person who had them no longer wanted them. Smokey was gifted to me

I'm so sorry it got long but I hope we can be friends! And I am very eager to learn much more from everyone!

Me too. I just couldn't say no to her and let her get put to sleep. I had done lots of research and she's doing well, but I know I have so much more to learn. And from reading a lot of the posts, I felt that people here are nice!

Many times we follow our hearts when given a "verdict" that does not seem right. Thank you for saving this little one. I have an adopted Quaker who was found as an injured chick with a broken wing and an injured leg which were never treated. Daisy can't fly because of that but she has no other mobility problems.

I was really shocked when the vet told me he was gonna just put her down, granted, I understand he told me that it was illegal or something but still.... In my mind i guessed I just assumed that because you're a vet, you love animals and would do anything for them. But I guess not...

Daisy is sure blessed to be with you for sure! Quakers are so adoarble it's too bad we can't have them in Hawaii....
