Hi! I recently bought this cage to house a parrot (either a caique or a parrotlet) because it was pretty big, but now Im having second thoughts.... Here is a link to an amazon listing of the cage. What do you guys think? And if its not approppriate, what should I do? Thanks!

I can't tell what the bar spacing and thickness is?

I dont know the thickness, but the spacing is half an inch. Its marketed for budgies and finches it seems

Probably OK for a parrotlet but not for a Caique. The bars look thin.

For a parrotlet, it would be perfect. For a caique it probably will work also depending on bar thickness. Why are you having doubts?

I dont know, Im a very anxious person... The bars seem to have a coating and Im scared it will poison my bird and safety is a big issue for me as the closest reliable avian vet is 6 hours away. ><

What kind of coating?

It's not stainless steel or aluminum, so the bars SHOULD have a powder coating on them to prevent the bird from getting sick.

I read on the website that it was a paint coating

That looks like a perfect cage for a parrotlet or other small bird, there's a little room to fly.
But the cage looks like it's designed to really only hold up to smaller birds. It's probably not sturdy enough for a caique, although it is hard to tell in photos. Also, although it's a nice sized cage, a caique might appreciate something a little larger due to their energy level.

Larger? I've not seen a cage bigger than that yet... They are all smaller... Do you have pointers to affordable big cages?

Did you read the customer reviews? When I looked at the ad it says the cage is not available. I don't care for the sloping roof as my birds spend lots of time playing on cage top.

Yes I did, and after more research its not made anymore... I dont care for roofs either but it was the biggest I could find for an affordable price. Its hard because most sites only ship within the US and Im in canada... Im still in search ><

I found 2 that could be interesting! This one (that I like very much) and that one (which im not sure about, its the 0680 model). I need to save up >< And what dimensions would be appropriate for a caique sleeping cage?

The first one is terrible for a bird. It's designed so that the bird will only stay in the higher half, which would make it a very small cage.

Well caiques are known to explore and play on the floor, so I thought it could work

My Joey caique is all over his cage...
Bottom, sides walking upside down from cage top.
I also have large platform perch for him.
One thing I do wish for the future is a play top cage.
Wishing you luck finding a suitable cage...
