Well, little Chubs is 2 weeks old and look what he is up too! He valiently tried to climb back up the wire. When he got to the top of the blue towel I rescued him and put him in the nest. I don't know if he was out trying to find food. But when placed back in the nest he let out some cries and the adults flocked to him, and he started begging for food.

I phoned Avian Biotech...Chubs is a little boy. I kinda suspected that because it seems the males tend to be more docile. Look at that sweet face More faint blue is showing on the back of his head. He's still 39 grams today (same as yesterday) I think that is fledgling weight.

Look at Chubs there trying to venture out, then when back home was looking for a hand out. lol

I love the pic of him in the nest with his mouth wayyyyy open.

Yes...he was yelling his head off for someone to feed him! Then he would flutter his wings with his mouth wide open waiting for food

Those are the best pics yet. Wow has he grown in just a few short days! I love him, he is adorable! The yelling pic is so cute. When I opened the thread and saw the first pic I thought a rodent had gotten into the cage!!

Missi, no problem With his personality he is probably going to be a real sweetie. Now I have to watch that the little stinker stays put in the nest. I check and there are 4 adults that have hime circled and his little head is peeking out.

Look what I found hanging around in the cage!

He now thinks he is a big bird...so I am going to have to keep an eye on him. This is the 3rd day at 39 grams...so this must be fledgling weight. I rescued him and held him to my chest and he cooed and chittered and fluffed up. Then returned him to the nest and the parents checked him over.

Chubs wants to grow up and be big and strong and independant but he is still a mama and papas boy in reality. lol

How much to the adults weigh again Susanne??

The adults are around 60 grams

The little brat can fly!! He flew over to the adults on the upper cross platform. Then when he wanted to go home he flew back to the nest.

The little brat IS flying!! I couldn't get a shot of him in flight, but got one of him trying to take off. He begged for food from Daddy bird, and Daddy flew to the other side of the cage. he followed, and then Daddy went to the opposite side of the cage and he flew back.

Look at the 2nd pix. Does that look like child labor to you? They are trying to make him keep the egg warm when they are off the nest. He does not look like a happy camper about it...LOL

He's a big boy now He was out of the nest hanging around several times today. And he has decided that he is going to sleep with the big birds

Just precious! That pic makes those two adults look like a two headed mousebird.

What a brave mousebird! I was curious on how he would react to being handled by a stranger. My daughter Cherie came over and she got to hold Chubs. He stayed nice and still and started his little chirping. Then Kirby held and petted him. Look how big he is getting...a whopping 42 grams.

I guess they start young with the "it takes a village thinking" to make it all work.

Chubs is getting to be a big guy hanging with the adults now. Soooo cute!!!
