plum headed parakeet

Glad to finally join, I’ve lurked for a while. I brought home a 7-month old plum headed parakeet yesterday. I have a little experience with parrots, but love learning from others and sharing when I can.

So, not knowing of anyone else with a Slaty Head (in a non breeding situation) I am gathering most of my care information from similar species. So if you own any Asiatic parakeet, from an Alexandrine to a Plumhead, I'd love to hear about them and how you care for them! Anything and everything...

The bird doesn’t have to snuggle with me or nuzzle into my neck, just sit on my shoulder and hang out. I’ve done a lot of research on the care of these birds but I wanted to ask the opinions of actual bird owners on the personality. So which one forms a stronger bond/ is more affectionate...

My female Plum on her swing and my male Lime on his play stand. He’s about 10 months younger than she is and just started getting his coloring at 8 months. They bicker a bit when together but if separated always fly to the others’ area.

Diggle looks so bad right now. He's coming into his full colors and looks like he has something wrong with him. He doesn't but I can see why people would think there is :loltears:

It's Ollie and Diggle's turn for the vet! We are on our way now. My husband was stubborn and wanted to make use of the astronaut bubble carrier even though I thought they would of liked the Birdie GoGo. They seem to be fine though. Just some cuddles going on. I'll update with what the vet says...

It's this happy floof's gotcha day! He already looks so different than when we got him, at least to me. This is the day we brought him home. And this is him now, looking all proud of himself. One day he'll get his full gray head. :lol:

For any that don't know my birds' names are themed after the Arrow TV show/Green Arrow characters. I decided to actually do something quick and neat with their feathers and I'm happy with the way it turned out. Once I get a more lime feather from Diggle that will replace the first feather since...

I haven't had this happen before so it was scary but @Mizzely helped me through it. I knew what to do but it was still nerve wracking. I got the base out within 5-10 minutes of him breaking the feather so I think he's fine. I still need to clean him up but I didn't want to stress him out more...
