Oh no not more set backs, something with her circulation sounds like. Good to know at least they are keeping a watchful eye on her. I hope this is just a transient post surgery event.

Another update! CT scan showed that she has pneumonia probably brought on in some way due to all the stress. They are treating her with oral meds and by nebulizing her. Her need for oxygen is lessening and she will be able to go home when that is no longer needed. I got to go see her after work and she does look a bit rough but I was told she looks much better than she did yesterday at the same time so we are hoping for a slow and steady recovery. Once again, no news tonight is good news and I drop off Abigail, Iris, Nibbles, and Smokey for another lab tomorrow at 8am. The lab doesn't start until 1pm so they're going to try and give Iris a little time to at least see Ams through the door.

I forgot to mention that the color of her feet has cleared up considerably from what I was told. They looked pretty normal to me. Last time, she actually had a bruise on her foot that did clear up. This is one tough little girl!:)

Amazons are tough, and Ami sounds tough, too. It can be a real roller coaster and incredibly nerve wracking but hang in there! Sounds like she's on the road to recovery. Whew!

It always amazes me the bonding birds can make, how they 'pick out' their BFF! Knee mail up for you both

I would suggest talking to your avian vet about having a hysterectomy done.

It is also "risky", but more birds make it out alive and well, then dont. I am on an umbrella cockatoo facebook page, and you wouldnt believe how many female umbies have had this procedure done and came out alive and well.

Its when they continually prolapse, is when the procedure then becomes risky, because all the internal reproductive tract will be inflammed, and is at risk for a bleed out.

I suggest talking to your avian vets about this.

So, I just got back from dropping everyone off for the lab this afternoon and I got to see Amarillo again. She has gained 9 grams and is looking better. Her food of choice today seems to be bananas. Yesterday it was blueberries again and the day before it was raspberries. She's a funny little bird. She's also been demanding to be taken out of her oxygen cage at night for some scritches and last night, she knew when she needed to go back into the oxygen cage and flew right back in. She's such a smart little girl!

As for spaying, I don't know that I want to do any surgery on her because of all the scar tissue inside of her. Any surgery on her is going to be incredibly risky. I think that this egg was just a fluke because I set her up in a bad position by giving her a nesting spot and Iris and her were getting "down and dirty". I think that as long as I keep her away from cardboard boxes and dark nesty places and I keep my eye on her and Iris and make sure they don't do their little dance, we shouldn't have a problem with any eggs in the future. I've had her for six years with no problems until now. I'm just not willing to try another surgery on her with as many adhesions as she has.

Up and down, up and down. It's enough to drive a person nuts with these birds. Glad that Ami is improving and hope she continues.

Did they give her the Lupron injection?

I'm not sure. I'll ask when I pick up everyone today.

It might be more of less the same procedure of crushing the egg inside of her.

That can cause infections and issues too.

Something to consider and talk with your vet over which is more risky.

My only concern was the risk of infection if the egg adhered to the oviduct.
