New bird scale arrived finally and I am BLOWN AWAY! The quality is incredible! Not some cheap plastic POS. Very happy with my choice. Here are some up close pics. Its all stainless and wash down capable. Even comes with a leveling bubble sight mounted to the back. Its very heavy and very heavy duty. Sure, it was a little expensive compared to others, but for anyone out there in need of a serious scale, definitely consider this one! I will be using for non bird related stuff too, so I guess that's how I was able to justify the price.

As for Lada, she is VERY light right now :( I am REALLY worried about her now and need to get her eating more. Since she is my first parrot, I have not had anything to compare against. Clearly she has not been eating enough. I spoke with her parront and have a plan in place to try to start bringing her weight back up. She is at 353g right now versus the normal 383g - 549g range for female eckies. I will be tracking her weight now every day and making a few adjustments to her diet and feeding schedule to try to start that trend back upwards. If not able to turn it positive here very soon, I will be taking her into the vet.

"Eclectus parrots are specialists amongst the parrots, and the generalisations we make for other parrots do not always apply to Eclectus parrots. In the wild they are canopy feeders, eating many fruits, nuts, and seeds of rainforest plants. They are not obligate frugivores, but as much as 80% of their wild diet is reported to be fruit in some ecological studies. They have adapted to such a diet which is very rich in fibre by virtue of a longer-than-usual digestive tract. We also know that they require a diet rich in β-carotenes (which are converted as needed to vitamin A), and plant proteins (some authors have suggested 12%dm but this is only an estimate, and has not been scientifically established). On the other hand their diet should be relatively low in fat – some authorities recommend 6%dm, rising to 12%dm during growth or breeding."

What do I feed my Eclectus Parrot? |

I highly recommend that you feed her tofu for high amounts of vegetable protein. Fats are not a good thing to try to get weight o a bird (other than nuts - good fat, NO peanuts).

You aren’t limiting her food intake, are you?

She has more food than she knows what to do with right now. She apparently just isn't eating much. I guess I see that now. I am giving her tons of options right now and trying to encourage her to eat often.

Is just her weight down, or is her keelbone actually protruding? Like is she underweight for HER.

I thought about that too and was checking recently. No bone protruding as you would expect from a skinny birb. She does feel a bit boney in general though. I feel so bad its taken me until now to realize this. I'm such a bad parront :( Just glad I am fixing the problem now. Just bought some harrisons tonight. She has always liked "fruity pebbles" pellets and I know generally you should not change up their food, but right now, I am just trying to offer her an assortment of things so she can put some weight back on.

I've never had an issue mixing pellets or switching foods. Its not like dogs and cats with dry food. Parrots the biggest thing is just making sure they are eating in general.

Hello Andrew,
Please do not give her Fruity Pebbles - this is way too high in sugar and can cause even further feather picking and sensitivity issues in Eclectus. Try regular Cheerios instead. Also, Harrisons pellets (or any other fortified diets) are not advised for Eclectus. Try something simple like a bag of organic, frozen veggies at the store and warm those up for her. Stay away from too much protein as it can cause wing flipping/toe tapping and picking as well as overly hormonal responses. High fiber, fresh veggies, small amounts of fruit (limit sugar) and brown rice, unsalted should be a good base start.

The "fruity pebbles" here was meant to mean Zupreem Fruity, I believe!

@Mizzely is correct. Fruity pebbles, aka Zupreem. This is her favorite and she has been eating it happily for years. I have also recently put Harrison's (two different sizes) in her cage to try to encourage her to eat more. She of course gets tons or fresh fruits and veggies every day too. She is eating on her own in her cage right now! Really happy that she is finally coming around. Just need to see that weight trend upwards now...

Has she had a vet check recently? They would be able to tell you if you need to worry about her body condition
