Aww, that's so cute! The toy he's next to is his favourite and he was giving himself scritches with it for an hour, maybe that's what he was so happy about.Oh he's doing a very common macaw thing. My birds will sometimes do that out of frustration or anger, but generally a signal of liking something. It's pretty much an undefined macaw thing.
Taco basically existed as a money-making machine at his old "home". They had his mate as well (they showed me a picture, and she had plucked every feather she could reach from herself), but she died young, and without her Taco was essentially worthless, and that's why he was put on Kijiji. His nasty owners even boasted about how they used to buy wild-caught cockatoos and sell them, and lamented the fact that it's no longer legal to import them. They're evil. Also a little bit sad to see his behavior.
This is probably the first time in years that he is and are allowed to be happy.
@hrafn I hope that you enjoy every second of him showing joy over life again.
You and every one of you that saves a bird in need are so worth it!![]()
And he can't imagine life without you. He will love you so much, just wait. Now I can't imagine life without him.
After you wrote that I looked again and I think you are right about that.I thought it looked more like Taco may be regurgitating on his toe?
Oh...uh, yup, he sure isI thought it looked more like Taco may be regurgitating on his toe? Buzzard does something similar. Shortly after he came to us, I realized he was regurgitating on his wing as a soothing behavior. Even though his new house was better, it was still quite a change and a lot for him to deal with. Then we hung up a toy he liked & he started "feeding" that instead and that allowed his wing to heal. He still does it , but I think now it has become more of a habit than a soothing behavior. Could be something he did at his old home to cope?Oh...uh, yup, he sure is
Ok, I hit the “like” button, but your post needs a “love” button. Lucky bird, lucky family, beautiful new beginning.Taco basically existed as a money-making machine at his old "home". They had his mate as well (they showed me a picture, and she had plucked every feather she could reach from herself), but she died young, and without her Taco was essentially worthless, and that's why he was put on Kijiji. It's been one week to the day now since I brought him home with me, and every day he seems to realise all over again that his cage door will never be shut on him forever, that he'll never be relegated to a dark and musty corner, that's there someone now who really loves him. He's so happy, and so eager to do all the things he wasn't able to do before. He's such an absolute joy.
The original plan, when I first saw the ad for him on Kijiji, was to pick him up, get him looked over by a vet, and rehome him to a proper forever family. I didn't think I was good enough, and I certainly didn't think I would build a bond with him before I found him his new home.
Now I can't imagine life without him.
