So I live in an apartment complex with a cockatiel. Recently, for about the past two weeks, I've been smelling some weed from one of our neighbors. It happens 2, maybe 3 nights a week, and I usually smell it for about 10 minutes. And this is with my door and windows closed. It's legal in my state, but I'm really concerned about it affecting my tiel. I know that birds are more sensitive to smells/fumes and it can easily cause health problems. I want to complain to my landlord, but since it's legal I don't know if there's much they can do about it. And I definitely can't ask my neighbors to stop. They're all kinda crazy... Want to move out of here as soon as possible. Is there anything that I can do to the apartment to help? I don't have much money unfortunately, but I want to know all my options. Like maybe an air purifier? A way to close off my windows more? I'm not sure.

Does your landlord allow cigarette smoking in the units? I would see what the rules are for smoking in general and see if there is a way to compromise. At least in my state they have to be so many feet away from the building to even smoke outside. Weed is legal here too and we can smell it from our neighbor as well, and our buildings are not connected! I usually have my window open with a fan in it, so I turn it around so it is blowing the smell out of my house instead of in it. An air purifier also definitely would help.

There are two designated smoking spots by the building that they're supposed to use, but they're like maybe 10 feet away. I'll definitely look into an air purifier. In the mean time, I have a swamp cooler that can vent out air instead of blow it inside. Would that be helpful?

You want to ensure if you get an air purifier that it's HEPA & not ionic.

Air purifier would probably help, and fans if your tiel is in its cage.

Make sure you have a regular cleaning schedule with your swamp cooler so you don't get any funny business in the filter. :)

Just ventilating is the best you can do...unfortunately cant control your neighbors.
