Hello,
I recently adopted a budgie from an animal shelter with no background information other than it was brought in as a stray. Its gender hasn’t been confirmed but it’s likely very young. It’s Cere is light pink which would normally indicate female but I read somewhere the recessive pied gene mutation makes males never develop a blue cere. Can someone verify? Someone please help. I have attached the best pics I have so far. Thanks in advance.

She’s female & has a lot of fancy mutations!

Looks like pale yellow diffusing into a blue based budgie, plus the pied, which also looks recessive to me.

Note the blue low on her abdomen - almost always recessive pied. Is there colour low on her back, where the wings fold over? If not/not much, totally recessive pied.

Maybe @AussieBird can identify which yellow face mutation she has. :)

Wow. Thank you for your quick and informative response. She has teal blue on her lower abdomen and lower back and her tail has a few darker blue feathers. Her face is pale yellowish… so I’ve been scratching my head to identify what type she is. Makes sense that she has some mutations. I adopted her yesterday and will eventually capture better photos.

Everytime I try reading about yellowface my brain can't comprehend it :shy:

My unsure guess is Yellowface Type 1, Single Factor...

I have the same issue; yellow face mutations are difficult to distinguish between.

This really helps! Thank you! She is very shy and won’t let me hold her but I let her out to fly around the room yesterday and I think she enjoyed spreading her wings. I want her to feel safe so I’m spending a lot of time singing and talking to her. Also, her name will be Bunny. :pbbudgie: Thanks for all the help!
