An update on him. The vet has had me give him anti mites and parasites meds and an anti inflammatory, but it’s gotten worse not better. Now there’s pin feathers over a large patch of his chest, leg, sides and butt. He’s still pulling but it’s like he’s pulling it bare and then the pin feathers come in and he leaves them alone and they grow in and he finds a new place to pull. It’s really weird so he’s covered in pin feathers a lot. The next steps they said are X-rays, an expensive $250 test for feather wasting disease and a regular blood test all costing over $700. My pet insurance is at least working now. I don’t think it’s any of those, I think he’s throwing tantrums if he can’t be out a day because I’m outside or for any reason whatsoever. He’s on bird hemp and avicalm literally two calming things and the hemp enough is supposed to stop the plucking so there’s literally nothing else I can do at this point I don’t think it’s medical I think he’s throwing tantrums and there’s nothing I can do about it. I debated getting him a friend but I’m allergic to birds and I don’t want another parrot if I ever got another I’d want a pigeon they’re quieter and unlikely to become neurotic and throw tantrums like this. So really I don’t know what else to do. There’s a possibility it’s because he’s a year old and he’s hormonally frustrated but that’s a forever thing isn’t it. They said there’s an option for shots to keep that down but that’s a whole life thing.
also the vet marked him as a parrotlet which is funny
