How is Nube (and you) doing Zara? I hope you are getting some rest from watching him and keeping him company and I really hope he is getting better.

The V shape wound is nicely scabbed over.
He is now not taking any medication.
I will get a hold of him in a minute or his clean and have a good look. He has new pinnies coming through which is nice, but I bet it's unbearable for him to not reach them.
I will give him more supplement today :)

We had the check up today - hopefully it will be the last!

He has a little scab still, but our vet recommends weaning him back to his normal life. So starting tomorrow he will have the collar removed and will be allowed a bath, followed by some time in the sunshine to preen (under extremely close supervision!). Then the collar will be put back on for the night until the next day.
Only when the scab is completely gone can the collar be removed full-time and Nube and Lapis be reunited.
I currently have 5 birds in 5 cages. My heart is literally bursting waiting to see these two back together.
Will keep the thread updated .....

After a bath,

He sat and preened some of the feathers afterwards.
Will offer another bath tomorrow.
He has Jaime's felt collar on for the night

And yes, he snapped a pin feather this morning but the bleeding stopped and he was able to bathe with no issues.

It's so great to see how well the wound is healing! It's a big ask, but please be good about your collar for a while longer, Nube!

The wounds seems to have completely healed. I just worry over the new skin and really dn't want it accidently ripped. So I'd rather torture him with the collar two extra days than go back to the beggining. I really want to be sure!
His feathers in that area are completely wrecked, tatty and stained to buggery, but it's ok. Hopefully a moult will come along soon anyway, he is due one :)
He is doing really well in the felt collar.... hopefully these next few days fly by :fingerscrossed:

Today before another bath,
Can see the little scab just above the broken feather,

After bath,
Quite unsightly when wet

Hopefully in a day or two he can be collar free. We will see :fingerscrossed:

I completely understand the need to keep the collar on him for a few extra days. When Opie was picking at his skin, I had to keep him collared until there was absolutely no trace of the wound left. If taken off too early, he could have over preened his skin and opened it up again.

These two enjoying the heatwave
Well, for 15 mins anyway.
IMG_20240127_155442.jpg

The remaining scab is so small but while it is still there, the collar has to stay for unsupervised times. By supervised I mean I literally have my face resting on the cage bars to get as close as possible to see what he's preening. I've already had lapis nip my face twice
Anyway... Only a few more days... :fingerscrossed:

Update;

I think having the collar off so soon after that big scab dropped was a mistake. I should have waited one more day. Instead I think it actually was made a little worse which has taken a week to heal. Set back :(

Anyways, today the scab has healed and I have removed Nubes collar, hopefully for the last time.
He has also been reunited with Lapis, well the divider taken out so they can snuggle and preen.

Not sure when I will put them back into their own cage. For now they stay in this little cage where I can keep a close eye on them. I don't know whether to put the divider in for bedtime. I am just not sure yet.

There is a feather that has emerged and is growing the wrong way, but I think I have seen others say similar things and this can just be a fluke thing? @Macawnutz ?
He hasn't yoinked it yet, they have preened it...
