Gryphon is a young male Blue Naped Mousebird that I added to my flock on Saturday, Dec 5th.
He is a wonderful and unique bird, with tons of personality.:)

Thanks BF & Susan! He loves to sand bathe, but hasn't since he came home. So I thought I would see if he liked water. Well in this next set of pics he was shimmying on my desk in the paperwork, trying to find that sand..lol.:D

In his cage, with paper up high so it minimizes the sandblasting effect:rofl: I put him back, gave him some fruit which he jumped right down to eat. Now he is calling for me again...
Didn't Susanne say these are quiet birds? LOL...he is my noisiest! The parrots have him beat by volume, but this guy will constantly call for me until I enter the room...then it's chirp chirp..chirp..

Thanks Titanis! He is very different from parrots and other birds. It's neat to have a small bird packed with so much personality.:)

I totally agree with you there. I know you are near your flock size limits, but one day if you really want something completely different from a psittacine, look into the rhamphastid family and see one closely in person. You are accustomed to softbill care, a toucan shouldn't be much different. Biggest challenge is staving off the onset of hemochromatosis but other than that and the requirements of a substantial housing, they're great. :cool10:

Seriously though, I would love to meet some aracaris just to see what they are like. But realistically, I have plenty! Any more and someone would suffer from not enough attention...that wouldn't be fair. I have four birds who demand my attention, and a dog. It's like having 5 kids!:p And even though they don't demand it, I still give attention to the other three.
On a side note...the little escape artist got out tonight-jada! OMG she could have flown right out the door when we came in. I left one little door up about an inch accidentally. I didn't even notice until I heard what sounded like a hummingbird zip past me in the kitchen. I had been gone to get Troy, and as I said..when we came in off the carport she could have gotten out! Whew..so glad she didn't!:faint:

Thank you Drop & Ashley!:hug8:

In about a week he should settle down, once he knows you are his only flock member....LOL

Thanks Susanne, I hope so. I don't want him to miss them and be calling for them. Thanks Emily, he has me charmed.:)
I wish this pic came out better. I was trying to show how much blue he has on his body. But since I am not the greatest photographer..
He looks like he has a beard:D
