My husband and I just got a green cheek conure a few months ago and is our first and only bird. I stay at home while he works so I spend a lot of time with her and so does my husband when he is home. She has started to molt and I noticed that she eats her feathers when they fall off. Is that normal? What should I do?

Are you certain she's actually eating them, or just playing with/chewing them? What's her diet like?

My old quaker did that once and I asked the vet and my vet said sometimes when they don't feel well they can eat a down feather. (My bird had a yeast issue at that time) I'm not sure if that's the case with your bird though.

Is she eating the feather or chewing on the quill? There's stuff in the quill- and of course I'm being a spaz right now and can't think of what it's called- that they can chew out and eat. My tiel used to do it sometimes. It's common I think to do and not harmful.
