So my zebra finch laid an egg yesterday and today she should have the second one. She was conditioned beforehand but i guess something happened and she is now egg bound. She is laying on the ground straining to lay an egg every 10 minutes, after the contractions would go back up to the nest, eat, and act normal only to go back to straining on the ground. only one avian vet (not really an avian vet but has experience with birds and other exotics) and they are closed since it is a sunday. some people suggested giving liquid calcium and i do have some on hand although i do not want to catch her twice and stress her out even more if i do need to manually extract it from her. So should i just go straight to extracting the egg or try giving her calcium first and waiting a few minutes? I also have a heat lamp on her.

Proceed with caution when administering calcium supplements to not over do it.

Check the humidity of the room and if it´s low, up it.

went to the vet, nothing in the xray. still lethargic though... sleeping a lot and straining every half an hour on the ground for 5 minutes. no egg yet today, hoping it'll pass. vet just said to give vitamins. she is still jumping around when not straining though. the humidity is high, anything else i can do for now?
