Dropped feathers

Hey, so I just came home and got my cockatiel out and when he was flying around I noticed he dropped a ton of feathers all at once. I’ll add a photo. He seems to be fine and I didn’t see any bald spots but I was just wondering what this is? It seems a little early to be molting and I haven’t heard of molting like this but I’m at a loss. Does anyone know what happened?

Are those tail feathers? The person I bought my cockatiel from said one time when he was inexperienced a cockatiel flew off his hand and he sort of grabbed it's tail, and it ejected all the tail feathers so it could escape. I think yours got scared and ejected it's tail feathers to escape?

All the feathers are in one place as opposed to scattered all over the room. So it does sound like he was spooked.
I see you are in a doorway. I wonder if he got a feather stuck in the door or on the door frame or something like that.

I´m surprised you don´t see his tail quite thin - or at least a lot thinner than normal.

Yes now he only has half a tail which makes him look kinda funny. It is very possibly he did seem kind of nervous afterwords, when I opened the door he got scared and dropped his feathers. I’ll make a note to be more cautious when opening doors when he is free roaming. Thanks!
