Hi my one and a half year old cockatiel has been itching like crazy and when she preens will make little painful cries. I'm not sure if shes maybe shes itchy because she about to molt? But she hasn't started losing feathers so I'm not sure. Will they get itchy before molting? Could it be mites? Shes not restless at night or anything though from what I've read most stuff says mites are even more active at night (not sure if that's actually right) but she sleeps perfectly fine.
She also had a very stressful visit to the vet about 2 weeks ago. She took a bite of a houseplant and I took her in for an emergency visit and they gave her toxiban and some other medications. Could she be having a bit of a reaction from that?
If someone could give me some advice I'm still going to take her to the vet again but I'd really appreciate some input

The painful cries could be because she has a wonky feather that might be bothering her. It should resolve on its own soon. Molting will make them preen more, which might make them seem itchy, but I don’t think before a molt they preen more. Does she like baths? A gentle misting might help. Is it dry where you are? A humidifier might help too.

Thank you for the advice I will get a humidifier tonight! She takes regular batches about once a week but I'll try to maybe get her to take an extra one she usually will only take them when she feels like it so sometimes she'll go longer than a week but that's usually about the average
