I always pulse beans separately... and then mix it all in with the finely chopped vegetables!! Some of it is sure to stick to their beaks!!! :highfive: I never pulse the rice.

The fine paste is NORMAL and very good!! :hehe::)

This is what prevents choosy and picky eaters!!!!!!!!!!!:hug8:you can coat your rice with the bean paste.. and mashed sweet potato or butternut squash will help too. If you notice the mashie that Emma is eating.. it's this one GLOP of rice, beans, sweet potato and butternut squash with fine pieces of chili and rapini mixed in.

Here's some literature that I found on the net.;)
WOW thank you, I just finished reading them both. WOW. Y'learn something new every day. :)

I would love to know what you have to say:) My brain is a sponge, I soak in all knowledge :D

no fat, fat is a killer.
Saemma posted some good links.:D

Well fat can be very good, it stores water and most captive parrots don't drink enough water and without enough fat in the diet, one can get kidney problems(but if you eat plenty of veggies and fruits that have water in them, I dont see how this can happen ;))

Will feeding sprouted seeds, or a very limited amount of seed hurt? I hope Little Scooter is alright:hug8:

Im wondering more about Scooters condition. Does he fly a lot? I thought with plenty of exercise, 30% seed and fatty foods in their diet, isnt too bad. Its not like your feeding them 30% of their diet bad fatty oils like french fries, etc. ;)

I ask because my birds get about 25% seed, nuts and dried fruits, dried legumes like rice, and oats and groats, all in their foraging toys. And I know my birds LOVE to forage. They are fully flighted, and they do quite some flying :) But Im starting to worry.. perhaps my birds are getting too much fat? On the other hands, my birds get a good 50% of their daily diet all fresh chopped veggies and some fruits and perhaps 20% pellets and a small percentage of healthy human/people foods.

the diet you describe is fine for normal healthy birds i think :). Scooter can't metabolize fats. It separates and pours out undigested. Taxes his pancreas and liver greatly. Even the Lafebervet Emeraid supportive care food has 5% fat and it still comes out in big oil stains. I'll look for my graphic pics....
