I'm so sorry you had another one with her. Guard her condition, you have what seems a great Vet too.

You'll get these under control. I will say a prayer for her that she has no more of these!

Hugs to you Papa!

Oh bless your heart, and hers too -this is so awful to see, I can imagine. Praying that she will be okay and spared these horrible seizures!

wondering how "she" had plaque, yet my grey, senny, and budgy were on same diet as poppers..yet they are healthy as ox's .
Poppers didn't come to me till she was 7 yrs old. She's 14 now. No idea how her diet was before. So it's baffling to me.
True you don't know what her diet was like for her formative years, but the same diet can even affect different humans differently. I'd imagine the same is true of birds.

Maybe it's not that Poppers is ill because of a poor diet so much as her body just has different requirements now. If she were on a lesser diet, she would probably be far worse. :bluhug:

Yes, some of us are more susceptible to disease & disorders. Very good point! There's so much that can cause these things from diet, genetics to even environmental situations. It's just so hard to say.

Ok , just spit balling here, I wonder if flaxseed oil would help. In humans it help with high cholesterol, I drop my bad cholesterol by 20+ points if I take it daily.

Can't hurt laurie....never tried the oil. I do have ground flax seed, it's nearly power form. I mix it in with their oat meal in some mornings. I like it myself.

Hello, Been watching how poppers is doing and I feel for you. I had a 13 year old love bird that use to have the exact same symptoms, go all stiff, no movement etc, would pet and snuggle him and he would eventually come out of it and be fine again. He never did get the full use of his right side again but he lived for another 4 years before he peacefully passed in my arms. Got his appetite and curiosity back but would have these seizures sometimes daily then good for a few days and start all over again. He used to get around fine walking/stumbling down the hall looking for me when he would hear me come home. He became my second skin. To the point I had to sneak into the house so he would not start calling and come looking for me if he heard me. We did not have any vets nearby where I lived then so never did get medical help for him, which I always wonder if it would have made a difference considering how long he lived. You are doing everything humanly possible for her which I applaud you for! She truly is your family.
Just wanted to share that though it’s a different species and all, do not despair, she may be with you for years to come and not really notice/remember that she is now different. My baby just adapted and kept on boogieing. Going away for a few days camping and taking kiwi with us again, so will drop by the avenue when I get back!! All the best to you and all!!

I miss my poppers.....the way she originally was.
Saying hi daddy, talk constantly. Playful.
Now she's too quiet. I know she's not well at moment...but she's trying to get well. I
Question for anyone....
Syringe feeding can get messy, food dribbles on feathers and around neck, gets sticky and hard from that emeraid. I wipe her with warm wet cloth, but still dries sticky and hard...
Any other way to get this off??

When I was hand feeding baby budgies I made bibs out of $ tree, type wash cloths . It helped some, I could wipe away any sticky that got on their beaks and faces as soon as it got there.

Fed her and medicate her This morning, about 20 minutes later her eyes began that rapid up and down real fast, and twitching around both eyes.....she was having another episode!!
I quick grabbed her, wrapped her to keep her warm and held her talking to her and Petting her.I
This one was not as bad as a couple days ago, never the less another one today!
Since the other one a couple days ago, she hasn't attempted to eat or drink on her own. She seems quite lost.
It's so sad, but I'm doing everything I can. Keeping fluids down, giving her the right amount of meds, right amount of food by syringe.
I've never went thru this with a bird, but have with my dad's dog.
Very similar, was only 2 yrs old. After last bad seizure, it passed away. My dad wanted to know why and how, so the dog was sent to Michigan state university lab for autopsy...
It was discovered that the brain literally turned to gel..!!! Meningitis.!
I don't think that's the case with poppers, it still going to ask vets opinion. There are vets that know the neurological side of the effects on birds from this type of stoke/seizure. But specialists are far and few. Little is known on the birds brain and how it is truly affected. Not enough solid data out there.

She had another one This morning Laurie, not as bad as a couple days ago, but never the less another one.
Seen the rapid up and down fast movement of eyes with twitching in both eyes. Just grabbed her out a towel around her to keep her warm, talked to her, and petted her.

I'm so sorry, I wish I could think of something more to do to help her. The one thing that I can suggest is contact the university with the best veterinarian program ask them for a consultation with your vet.

Good idea! I've been looking at " science daily"
It a web site specifically by universities all over, with bonafide research studies documented and cited...a very excellent site.
