Quite a lot of places in the UK have wild hedgehogs. I am from a city just north of Wardy and I used to see hedgehogs all the time. One time I drove home and one was just sitting on my doorstep. I remember finding a poorly one in the fields at a hospital clinic type place when I was a kid visiting my great gran, my mum called a rehabber and I put him in a box and they came and picked him up.Somerset uk

Had a proper messy night once after drinking a bit to much cider that I bought from a farm in SomersetSomerset uk
Hedgehogs are tiny nowhere near the size of a porcupineWell, the US has porcupines but they are secretive and not something you want to encounter with your dog.
Oh yep hahaHad a proper messy night once after drinking a bit to much cider that I bought from a farm in Somerset
I don’t know one in my gardens a monster actually don’t know how he fits under my gate obviously I know he’s not as big of a porcupine but he’s biggest I’ve never seenHedgehogs are tiny nowhere near the size of a porcupine
They aren't related to porcupines they are related to shrews though.I know hedgehogs are tiny but I THINK they are related to porcupines. Maybe it’s convergent evolution.
Anyhow they are the best comparison I can come up with. I think most city people have never seen a porcupine but I have seen them in the woods. You just leave them alone as they are trouble. Although I hear that the native people found them good eating (they’re fat).
I didn’t know shrews were poisonous not that I go around licking themAre hedgehogs poisonous like shrews? I guess their skulls look similar to shrews.
I suppose fur, hair, feathers, or quills are all pretty similar developmentally.
