In Australia wild bunnies are an introduced feral animal. So while cute, we really do not want to see them eating the native marsupials out of home.

In all honesty, I see them posted here and have to push myself to like the posts, gotta remind myself that not all places list them as pests like Aus does. I see rabbit and my brain goes straight to feral cat, mouse, cane toad.
Hate what so many introduced species have done to our wildlife.

It’s funny, I know this but I honestly still cringe when I see them- part of being born and raised in Aus maybe. Such a terrible problem animal here.
I’m curious, are hares native there too? Where are they native to?

Excepting regional introduced populations of dumped pets, our rabbits aren’t the same. There are feral populations out west now.

We have Eastern Cottontails here, but there are other native species too. Yes, we have hares too!

Sadly Australia is home to lots of introduced species that are killing our native wildlife. Shortnecked tortoise lives in the lakes in the southern 1/2 of Perth City - numbers have dropped dramatically because of reduced culling of introduced foxes. Council cameras proved this. Now we have to convince the State Govt to allow the resumption of the original culling levels.

I saw a Green Heron today. It was cool to watch them fish and walk along the edge of the pond. I really wish I had a camera. This is the best pictures I could get an little video too View attachment 462453 View attachment 462454

I haven't seen the bunnies too much but I did see the mom nurse them a while back it dark I use night mode on my phone. You can't make out the babies unfortunately. Hares are quite common in southern California. I've got photos of one somewhere in all my pictures from when we stayed at Gold Rock Ranch. I tried to search it in my photos, but stupid Google Photos only brought up pictures of Cotton Tails! I tried to video a bunny chasing fireflies in my backyard the other night, but even in night mode it couldn't focus.

Fire ants are the worst (if you're allergic, like me). When I was living in Florida my cat dropped a dead chipmunk at my doorstep. I went out barefooted to check my mail and stepped in it. Got bit by 3 red ants. Couldn't wear a shoe for over a week!

Inky my cat got so excited while looking out a window. I had to look too! The tiniest wild bird i have ever seen was looking for food on the outside window sill! Have no idea what it was. So i put some sunflower seeds there in case it returned.

All the seeds were gone today. Put more there.
