Making chop for so many different birds, from parakeets to African grays is a challenge. I try to mix it up, but have a few staples I stick with. I'm new to this, by my birds are thriving, and most now prefer chop to seed.
today's chop:
Baby spinach
Apple
Walnuts
Sweet peppers
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Sweet potato
Chia seeds (black)
Flax seed
Unsweetened coconut
Brown and wild rice
Tri-color Quinoa
16 bean mix
Super greens rotini pasta
(Zucchini, kale, spinach, parsley)

Chop is all my flock gets in the morning. Then TOPs cold pressed organic pellets at night. Your chop looks good.
Why can't you feed your entire flock the same chop? It should be small enough for small and large birds. My macaws eat the same as my caiques and conures. Try it, as it will save a lot of time. I make big batches and freeze it in single day servings. HUGE time saver. I make it with the same Staples but change it up by adding the currently available seasonal fruits and vegetables. That way it is constantly changing adding variety to their daily diet. images (6).jpeg

@Darklotus555 I didn’t realize you had a big flock - how many birbs do you have?

Your chop looks great, good job!

Thank you everyone who responded :joyful:
I rent a room and the home owner, my roommate had birds and got me interested, then hooked. He is older, so I do a lot of the care of his birds. I have 8 parakeets, and 2 cockatiels. He has 2 African grays, an Amazon parrot, a quaker parrot, 2 sun conures and a cockatiel who houses with mine.
My roommate lost his wife a while back and lost interest in his birds until my enthusiasm sparked renewed devotion to these amazing angels. Since that time, he got the conures, the amazon, and another Africa gray. So the flock has grown rapidly in a short period of time.
I've een devouring the internet on everything I can find on caring for these babies.
Again, I'm new to birds, but I love every minute I spend with them, and they are all doing so well.
I began feeding chop about a month ago. I have plans to switch them to pellets, but one step/diet Change at the time. I feed them all the same chop, some just like certain ones better than others. Kinda like
I love feeding the grays banana, grapes, apple, while the Quaker likes spinach leaves. Or the cockatiels love mustard greens, and the conures love mango....each bird has favorites.
I guess i just love seeing the birds happy, healthy, and each day learning something new to enrich their lives.

Aww you are so kind to help your roommate with h is babies!

I agree, chop is not one size fits all. For example, my finches don’t eat fruit, canaries, do, tiels won[t touch it, caiques love it. So sometimes my chop is not mixed. Other times it is

For the first time, all food bowls were empty this evening when I got home. I think it's the walnuts, or the sweet peppers!

Today I just fed my guys the same thing I was having: a little veggie stir fry ... minus garlic, onions, salt, pepper and any stir-frying :)

They happily devoured this chop of carrots, green beans, yellow squash, and quinoa.

Next time I'll sprout the quinoa and add flax. Just threw together something super simple (doesn't get much easier than "they'll have what I'm having!")

My lovebirds are interesting because they don't like chop sized bits, they prefer larger chunks of things. They're both pretty good eaters too

I'd like to do more sprouts. I've sprouted mung beans, and theyre easy, but haven't had much luck with other beans. Is quinoa hard to sprout? Chia seeds are easy if you have terra cotta, if not, a little tricky.
@jenseits looks yummy!!!!

Yes, quite easy actually! Mine also really like everything in this mix besides the millet: https://sproutpeople.org/amber-waves-of-grain-sprout-mix/

I feed when tails first show, so it is usually ready in 24 to 48 hours, easily.

I stick to some main ingredients like spinach, quinoa, flax seeds, but try to find new ingredients and stay in a budget. I've not had the courage to feed my birds chicken, seems like cannibalism in a way, lol. I have done hard boiled free range Brown eggs, guess it's kinda the same....hehehe. But they're good eater, and seem healthy, active, loud. They play and poop a lot. Even Albie, my kitten munches down on chop every morning while I fill birdie bowls.
One draw back to chop.......dirty beaks, lol.

My dogs love the chop as well. They cry the whole time I’m mixing it. They’re like the kings cupbearer taste-testing for the birdies.
