I don't know how will I manage quarantine for four weeks. Today Pestaa started flock calling and Inca responded. Then it was an opera. I know, hahns and Amazon in wild can become a mixed flock and Inca must be remembering his wild days but he became VERY excited! I know Inca very well, he can be satisfied only seeing the object of his flock calls. I tried to distract him. But now I'm off to work, don't know what's happening at home. Next update in evening, friends:roflmao:

Today Pestaa suddenly pulling his tail feathers. One of them was torn since he came to me. He was chewing on it, trying to remove that. After that i saw tufts of feathers on the floor. I gave him a shower today, he took the bath quietly but didn't ran away from it. What I believe, he was a hand fed baby once, but after years of no human touch he has become indifferent and a little scared of humans. It will be a hard work, that's what I perceive. But i have all the time in the world.

I'd suggest lots of toys he can destroy, paper, cardboard & wood. It may help him keep his beak from destroying his feathers. Talk to him a lot, let him know it's OK. He needs time to adjust & feel safe. Also act silly. Parrots love silly. So play music, sing, dance, etc. Move like a parrot...sway back & forth, bob your head, bounce, raise your arms like wings, etc. Share veggies & fruits. Let him see you taking a bite (or fake it), make umm good sounds, then offer him a bite.

Guiseppe prefers thin slices of wood. And specially likes wood with points like star shaped. He likes to snip all the tips off.

Yeeeeeeeeee
Pestaa took first treat from my hand:happydance:... I offered him small portion of seed mix (he doesn't get seeds except for dinner). He was watching suspiciously for a long time. I played a soft music in YouTube and was singing along with it. He was sitting on the farthest perch. Slowly he came down , walked towards my hand and WE DID IT!!! I am so excited, you can imagine my happiness!
Here's another sneaky pic

Congrats. One step at a time. Try upbeat happy music. It might get him moving more. Parrots love to act silly & flap, bounce, sway, etc.

I am worried about Pestaa, he's pulling tail feathers again. Already destroyed one. I've given him plenty of chew toys, he likes them. But whenever we leave him alone or we're taking a nap, he'll start chewing his feathers. I'm sure this is due to boredom because feathers are healthy and shiny. I think he's missing his aviary friends. Please advice me friends, I'm worried sick.

make sure you givem a shower, put a purch in the shower i use pvc, let em shower. something maybe irritating the feathers, do that first. second make sure u put pellets dont listen to previous owner start em on pellets only few seeds they will eatem. keep fruit away for now. second make sure the cage its big enough, it must be enough for him to move around perch high low etc. make sure its lit well. try to avoid touching him while stressed or new to the home givem time to gain trust.

Thank you so much. I am giving him daily shower now through a hand faucet. I have started offering him pellets from day 1 but naturally he's not interested:rolleyes:. Yesterday, I offered some pellets by hand. The brat came slowly, gave me a nip then scattered them on the floor with beak:nocomment:. I'll follow your advice on fruits, the problem is he's VERY fond of them, especially guava. Another problem, he doesn't touch vegetables. Right now I'm focusing on foraging toys. So please give me some ideas.

i know hes fond but a baby is fond of candy, we dont let them get cavities lol, you must leave pellets in there all day in his bowl along with water. pellets are pretty dry. fruit is like 10 percent of what he needs. if hes missing a vital nutrient he will pluck. try your best to put a mix of pellets so he chooses one. they will eat them when hungry. they wont starve they will attempt to eat anything they can before death they are very intelligent. you can put several seeds in to lure him to that bowl. showers are very important, i also spray him several times a week. he takes a bath in the bowl on top of all of that too. the pin feathers are very very hard it makes them itch. make sure its well lit as with any bird. inbetween pellets you can do veggies, mine eats it very little but i offer it. pellets is what you want to stick to as the foundation diet then offer all else. if you dont have any around your area message me your address ill mail some. dont introduce pellets by hand. its hard enough to take as is, if hes scared it makes that experience worse to try. i would begin foraging after hes steady eating the right food and ok, then begin those games. health first. plucking isnt taken seriously by many but the minute it begins, if it forms a habit you will lose that bird. the key is to break that habit fast change the mistake. takes many attempts to try to see what the cause is. be patient and you will find it. doing the perfect thing already by looking for the answer. lastly before i forget monitor his poop! here attached to this post is what it should look like. (unless he eats veggies) it will change slightly then return.

Yeah I keep pellets all day with water. Shall I mix multivitamins in his water?
