So I just adopted a white eared conure the other day and I feel a bit dumb :ashamed2:
I thought white eared was just a colour variant of GCC! S/He is the sweetest little bird and we already love him so much! For now I’m assuming his care/diet would be the same a a green cheek, but anyone on here please let me know if there is anything I need to do different. I guess I just thought he had the prettiest feathers of all gcc’s

I will do some more research. I know his full size will be a bit smaller (8.5 inches instead of 10). I am obviously fine with this discovery, just facepalmed a bit at my mistake! I’m also a first time bird owner, so go easy on me. Thanks!
:hug8:

A cousin but definitely a different species! Cute!! Most of the pyrrhura conures have very similar care requirements :)

He looks just like my restricta split to yellowsided green cheek conure.

I wonder if he's a mix? I thought they had more red? Or maybe that's when they are older? I can't tell in the photo if his face is red or black

The picture doesn’t pick up all of his colours, I’ll take more today. He has red on his shoulders and blue on the back of his neck. He doesn’t have any brown/maroon on his face, and not much maroon on his tummy (Yet?). I got him DNA sexed yesterday by someone in my area who owns a very extensive bird store and I emailed him last night. He says that he is definitely a white eared, not a hybrid. 1BBA8D90-516E-480B-8003-593666E58067.jpeg

It's oddly a common mistake.... many think that all the large conure species are different species, but all the Pyrrhuras are green cheeks. :what:

Regardless, care is pretty much the same! :) Personality may be different, but you get different personality traits even within the same species! :)
