Hi everyone. I've been doing research on different parrots because I would like to bring one into the family within the next three years or so. I had a cockatiel when I was a kid through college. Right now I have two dogs, two old cats (14 and 12) and lots of pet rats. Because I am realistic, I know I won't have the kind of time I need for a bird until my rats pass. They live 1-3 years long. I am in my mid 50's and will be looking to adopt an older bird when the time comes. I don't think it is fair to the bird to get a baby and then die on it. LOL. I have been especially looking at green cheek parakeets and the smaller conures. I am connecting with my local parrot rescues in Colorado to learn more about birds and volunteer to help out. I hear fostering can be a good way to find out if I really do want birds again and especially how my family feels about them. If there are threads about adopting that you think I should read, please suggest them. See you around the forum.
