Hank would hop when he was happy and full of energy. It was very cute and he would generaly hop, hop, hop. Jasper has never done it. Your guy looks very happy and content. He obviously had a good home before you - except for the diet. I hope you can get that changed over soon - peanuts are one of the worst foods for a parrot. Too much bad fat and the danger of aflotoxins or Aspergillosis.

Buffon's Macaw

• Adult Weight: 2.9 lbs or 1300g
• Chick Weight: 0.8 ounces or 23g
• Adult Length: 33.5 inches or 85cm

Jasper weighs only 1070 - 1090 which is very small for a GW. If your guy is underweight, he may be a small Buffon's.

Military Macaw

• Adult Weight: 1.98 lbs or 900g
• Chick Weight: 0.2 - 0.7 ounces or 18-20g
• Adult Length: 28 - 30 inches or 70-75cm

He's a little large for a Military. Although, macaws will vary by individual.

He luvs you is why he is licking you. Macaws will try to remove every freckle and mole from you. They cannot stand to see their favorite human imperfect. Jasper does this a lot.

The tail in your photos is another give away. It's a very deep red without a lot of golden banding. Your green color is not as lime as I would expect, head size looks military too.

@Hankmacaw I'm all about the "adopt don't shop"! Our only other pet is a weasel named Loki who is also a "senior citizen". I like older animals cause you don't have to deal with the teenager crazies

They do look identical. Sakie has a slight ring but I could not get it to show in the pictures.

Color is very hard to determine in pictures, but a Buffons is chartreuse or lime green. From the head shape and beak shape, my money is on military. Plus, as @Hankmacaw indicated, a true Buffons is a BIG bird, on the order of a greenwing or hy. If I had to hazard a guess, ignoring intergrades or military x Buffons hybrids, which are sadly common, I'd say you have Ara militaris mexicana from the facial feathers.

Fritz is adorable and seems like such a sweetie! Awesome that you adopted him, and it seems like he has adjusted quickly to his new home and seems to love you! Sometimes it can take a VERY long time for a bird to adjust and learn to trust in a new home. Fritz must know he's in a good place!

I have a lovebird that does this... if it's a freckle, it MUST come off lol
