May have gotten a male cockatiel?

Hello a bit of a backstory of how I got this little one. I just got a white faced pied cockatiel that is over a year old. They are in a temporary cage right now although they will be going in a cage with my other tiels. Well I was looking for a female tiel and this one was offered by the breeder.

In the videos he sent, it was really washed out so it looked like the face and body was almost the same color. I questioned him on this, although he so confidently said that it was indeed a female from how it behaves, no singing, posturing, ect. No DNA test was needed he was 100% sure this was a female. He drove the bird over and now he/she is with me.

Now that the tiel is with me I can see the “mask” that the males sport clearly. And now I am wondering if I should confront the guy about this? Or maybe even spend some money on a DNA test? pretty much looks like a male to me.

To be honest the bird doesn’t even look pied. I’m not sure what else I can do because the guy is looking at me like I was crazy to ask to DNA test the tiel.

I have a male white face that looks like that. In contrast, the face of a female white face is much lighter and washed out. Here is a pic of my female whiteface that I had.

He looks like a male white-faced to me.
Hm I think this seems like a quiet male cockatiel, One of my male cockatiels also acted like this and they were a confirmed male. I don’t think I’ll even bother to do a DNA test.

Well breeder said to just wait and see, from what I can see right now he/she does act like a female tiel. What is the odd chance that this tiel is a female? Because I do have a lemon pyle brahma hen (they are sexually dimorphic) that has the colour of a rooster. She does lay eggs so she is a confirmed hen!

update!
I invited over 2 of my friends, they specialize in breeding cockatiels. They had no idea :think1:, well both of them said he/she 99.9% looks wise is a male. Although neither of them has had an adult male that is so quiet. so they suggested a DNA test and everyone is waiting for the result!

Sometimes. You haven't had him long though right? It can take up to 3-4 months for a bird to really settle in.

oh yes i do know that although the breeder has had him for over a year now and even there he has never really made much noise. vet said he was okay. He is eating and drinking very well and is active and interacting with me.

It sure looks like a white faced male... Since he/she is over 9 months old, do the under side of the wings still have the bars? You can see them in black light... (that is another non-DNA test that could give you a hint)... Remember that until the big feather change at around 9 months, every cockatiel is dressed as a female...

No underside bars whatsoever. Which was
weird because I got the results!!!
