I was pleased to learn about this procedure...

Two young macaws were presented with malaligned beaks. This condition is commonly known as wry or scissor beak. The condition was treated by fitting “braces” to correct the abnormality. The braces are composed of a pin through the frontal sinus that is bent to be attached to the tip of the top beak. Tension is maintained by the device to gently straighten the beak. The straightening of the beak generally takes 2 - 3 weeks

Seen this method used a few times now but never on such little ones which is when I would guess the best results would be seen. I hope a time comes when all birds with scissor beak can have this done so they can use their beaks properly.

I really would love to know if a wild bird has ever been seen with scissor beak.

That's amazing! The description sounded horrible, but the pictures aren't so bad, it doesn't seem to bother them, and it's corrected so quickly!

Sorry, maybe it is too early for me yet but I really do not understand your comment- what is AKD?
