You should not try to administer antibiotic without vet prescription. The vet will show you how to safely administer antibiotic if it is needed.

Without seeing your bird it is so hard to say what it possibly is that you are seeing, we can not help further than tell you what we have already- this, from your description is vet territory.
Alright, thank you. I’ll send a picture tomorrow since it’s getting late here. The birds are sleeping.

We are saying you need to get to a veterinarian as soon as possible. Your burds are in pain. They need professional care. You have a risk of them not making it.

I can’t do a 4 hour long trip at night (it’s 22:44 here) when I have a huge exam tomorrow. Plus, I’m not that old of an owner so I don’t have a permit for driving a car yet. My parents work and while I would love to help my lovebirds, an 8 hour round trip wouldn’t be possible at this time of the day (plus the vet in question is closed at this hour). I’m still stressed even now, but I just hope they can get through. If the situation deteriorates by tomorrow, I might miss school for that matter, but that’s still improbable as I need my parents approval.

Some vets do not advertise on their website that they will see birds but will anyways. Some also have relationships with vets that they can contact about questions if they get an Avian patient in. I would stop lamenting about the 4 hour drive and find someone nearby willing to give your birds first aid: wound care, antibiotics, and pain relief.

Call local vets and ask if they can do basic first aid for your birds. Ask who nearby does if they won't.

If you have any pet shops, or rescues, or shelters, or wildlife centers nearby, call them and ask who they use or recommend for Avian patients.

If you or your parents are on Facebook, ask your local city pages where people take their pet birds for vet care.

Network until you find a solution.

I have to drive 45 mins to see someone who knows more than the basics on birds, and 3 hours for the only Avian certified vet in the state. So I get it.

Sadly that’s already’ve been done. We’ve called many vets around, even in Quebec and in other areas. Every single one of them didn’t take exotic animals in. The only one that could is in St-Hyacinthe (but we couldn’t call them since it was closed). The main problem is the 4 hour ride (3 hours if you go fast enough). (I have school and two 3-hour long exams in the next 2 days). Plus it would mean an 6-8 hour ride total, which is just not possible at the moment. If it had been the weekend or a better day, sure, but that’s not the case as of now. I will try with Facebook if it works.

I agree with @Mizzely I'd look around more too. Depending where if you live closr to Ontario border Ottawa has 2.

This probably old information but some may still be available

UPDATE
Ty for the vets, but they were sadly far away / seemingly not there anymore. We’ve called the St-Hyacinthe vet and they told us that they could do nothing for Coco’s finger. They also said that them drinking, eating and pooping was a good sign. We got antibiotics in spray from a pet shop, so it pretty much all worked out in the end (they told us to spray 3 times a day the injury). They’ve told us we can also put some in their water. Oh and Rico seems to have gained a lot more energy since yesterday. He’s a lot more active, which looks like the behavior of the Rico I know and love. Coco is also much more calm.

Colloidal silver is not an antibiotic.

It's true that there's not a ton they can do for toes, just like in people. However, cleaning it, checking if the bone is exposed to prevent serious life threatening infections, and providing antibiotics and pain relief are things that CAN be done.

I was going to link the exact same article.

That is not antibiotic. It is not something I would ever consider ingesting so there is not a chance in the world I would give it to my bird.

Oh, well it seems to work from what I’ve seen. From what I’ve read, it can be good and bad. There’s many articles having a different opinion this point, so I think it can work.

The FDA wont approve it, seriously what more do you need?? I need to remove myself from this thread- I can not help you with the train of thought and care you have chosen. I hope your bird recovers and is not in too much pain in the meantime

I know living in a rural area or a smaller community poses its challenges, and that ideally it'd be great to have a vet close by who has experience seeing exotics/parrots.

But, if you live in a rural area, are there any farm vets that are closer to you? Surely they have experience treating non-exotic birds and could help these types of injuries on a bird whether that bird is a parrot or a chicken?

Sorry for offending you, I’ll look into it. I don’t know what to do, so it really is difficult for me. I’m sorry if you think I’m a disgusting person or that my thoughts are wicked. I just really want to help them, but I also have to consider other factors such as money, transport and time.

That seems like an actual good idea, thanks for letting me know. I’ll look into it.
