hello! We have an indian ringneck who's around 9 months old now, and we're having a bit of trouble.

He was handfed as a baby by the store owners that we got them from (although pretty messily), and is still pretty aggressive while on his cage. Most of them time when going to ask him to step up his eyes pin and he sidesteps away from us, yelling and biting. Although in the morning he's pretty eager to get out, and sometimes when my mother comes home in the afternoon and evening.

He seems to be scared of hands, but He'll give kisses and is fine being by our faces. but as soon as a hand is near him he usually moves away, eyes pinned again. And he always seems to be nervous in general, leaning towards somewhere where he wants to go and lifting his wings, or pulling at our shirts and tapping us on the cheek or nose.

And is there any tips on how we could get our IRN to get along with our sun conure? They both go at each other.

Thank you!

When my ringneck first came home she was about nine months, and she was aggressive around her cage as well. I believe at that age they feel a lot of hormones and they are testing you. if you keep working with him and be patient, he will mellow out eventually.

It sounds like you need to work on training before even considering trying to attempt to get your two birds to get along.

Do you offer a treat any time you walk by your ringnecks cage? You do not need to give it to him directly, just drop it into a special treat cup and keep walking.

Have you ever done any target training with your ringneck at the cage?

Ringnecks go through what many refer to as the "Bluffing" stage . They are testing you and if you are hesitant they will exploit it ! If he likes coming out of his cage , you have a tool ! Put your finger in front of the open door and tell him to "step up" if its the only way for him to get out , he will cooperate ! If he doesn't leave him inside , he will figure it out soon enough ! Remember birds have a short attention span (15 minutes) ! Several short training sessions a day will be more productive than 1 long one , and less frustrating for you and your bird . Best of luck ! :)
