I have an existing yellow sided green cheek boy named Pico de Gallo and a new arrival, a yellow sided turquoise girl named Princess Leia. Leia has been in “quarantine” for two weeks now and has a week left to go.

I say quarantine, but really she has just been in a small cage in the guest bathroom of the two bed two bath apartment I live in with my boyfriend, while Pico has his cage in the main living area about twenty feet away. So not really a true quarantine, but it’s the best I can do.

Pico is a DNA sexed boy while Leia is a DNA sexed girl. I’ve also had Leia at the vet to get an exam just to rule out anything that could be wrong with her. They gave her the all clear.

As for introducing them, they’ve been calling out to one another already. High pitched long chirps that I assume are flock locating calls. So they pretty much know about each other being here. Do I just bring out Leia so that she and Pico can see one another but not physically interact yet?

They each have their own large cage so would keeping them separate but visible to one another work for a few weeks? Then allowing limited physical contact for the next few weeks after?

I’m really interested in hearing how it goes and what others suggest. I have a cinnamon green cheek and am thinking about getting another soon. I’d love for them to be friends (they don’t have to share a cage or anything, but at least tolerate each other) and keep each other company when I’m at work or away for the day.

I always go slow. Opposite sides of the room for 2 weeks. With taking one over with me to say to the caged one and treats all around. And switching up and repeat. Many times Never met the free one in the cages ones cage.

I will also have one out with me and sit by the caged one and hang out with random treats to both . Switching and doing as often as can .

Then I move the cages closer. I do dude by dude but not touching sbd far apart enough if they both lean out can't touch. A week or more if this while still doing above.

Then first out of cage introduction in a neutral area , with lots of food soread out . I get both birds in a good mood and set in opposite dudes if ne with their treats. I have an envelope handy to slide between if they charge each other. If any body acts fussed I out them up and try again later. Ehst I want us them to nit care the other bird is near fir it to be no big deal. If they want to approach each other calmly I allow. I do this several times until all seems good

Thank you so much for the thorough reply. Super helpful and that all makes sense! I’ll do my best to follow your tips.

I've had great success following @Pixiebeak 's advice on introducing my two and adjusting based on my birds reactions, etc. I hope everything goes well for you too.

One important thing for me too was to definitely have plexiglass over the cage tops since they do like landing on the others cage out of curiousity and it protects their feet from getting bitten by the caged one.

Plexiglass on top is a great idea! Thank you!
