Can someone tell what Fuller's Earth is and do you think it might help provide some kind of nutrient for pluckers?
---------------------------------------------------

Interesting question. In my Wild Health book dust and dirt helps to keep the skin less hospitable to bacteria and pathogens. In humid climates the skin is more prone to be affected by moisture, and it makes me wonder if plucking might (speculating) might be a means of exposing the skin to keep it drier.

Here is a pix of the canister I have. It can be found at petshops.

Thank you!!! And such fascinating info! Troy said earlier "he is crying":(
I had to explain that is his contact call.:D He does it every time I leave this room now, until I return then he chirps softly & will eat. He likes the mazuri pellets softened by the fruit.:)
------------------------------------------------------

Ah...he has to keep his human within sight...LOL He can sound mournful when he wants to. Strangly #34 and the Widower are now making contact calls every time I go outside.

What size Mazuri pellets? When the WB have babies I will soak their pellets in juice and they gobble them up to feed the babies.

Nice photo Carole of you both. You have such interesting birds. Do Jada and Mr Jeepers (forgot what they are called) and now the mouse bird add to your food prep time? I love the variety in your signature for us to see. Looking forward to the name and more photos.
By the way, Susanne's site is great. Her tiels are beautiful.

You are welcome. Scroll down for Orlux fruitee,Orlux insect, and Orlux uni pate'. I don't see that anyone carries the Orlux Beo pate', I get it when the show comes though.
Another good product- Bugs n berries
Avico Bugs-N-Berries - Insectivorous Diet for Birds - Seed & Food - Just Bird Stuff
this site also looks to have Orlux but is just out of stock.

Thank you. Jada and Mr. Jeepers are red legged honeycreepers;) Yes, with having to mix nectar and give fruit throughout the day, it is more work...but worth it.:D The name is set~ Gryphon:)
Susanne has well documented her experiences!:highfive:

I'm getting ready to setup all the mousers. The geese have been quiet...but that nosey gander will start honking and being a busybody once I get going...LOL

Has Gryphon tried it yet? It will be interesting to see what he thinks of it.

It looked disturbed, but I did not witness him eat it. He ate two blueberries and moments later out popped the remnants. He seems to favor the papaya.

Ah...he is going to be spoiled. Wherever he choose to perch in a look out position you can wedge a slice of apple thru the cage bars...and a little greens.

I just moved all the mousers onto the porch. I have so much moss and stuff in the cages that they are hiding.

Out of curiousity I did weigh a few. The BN average 58-60 grams. The RF were 57 grams. And the WB were 40-45 grams (hens smaller than males)

So Gryphon is a heavyweight..wasn't he 80 grams? You have to keep us updated on how they do in their new homes! I wish I could have a colony like you have.:) I think it is the best way to keep them.

I was reading in my Wild Health book and might try a Seawater recipe I have that I occassionally give the tiels. I'll offer it in a separate dish.
That is interesting. Seawater has every element found on earth. I wouldn't use the Instant Ocean though..it's garbage! I use Tropic Marin Pro. It's over three times the price of IO. I can send you some.

I think he was already spoiled when he got here.:D As soon as I put the apple up to the cage bars he went for it. Oh and he wouldn't touch the strawberry until I squished it a little and held it for him to eat. LOL...see..already spoiled!!

If you can that would be great :) The seawater recipe is a good overall tonic for the birds.

Ah...he has you already trained :)

He was 60 grams...which is good sized. When catching the WB yesterday they felt so slim compared to the BN. I have read/heard that the speckled are the largest.
