I'm freaking out here. I wasn't paying close enough attention and gave Olive 0.3ml of her meds instead of 0.08ml. I was thinking 0.8ml and as soon as I started giving it to her I realized it was WAY too much. But she already ate that much. Crap crap crap. I called my vet, no answer. I'm so mad at myself. :(

I have no advice but I hope she'll be ok. Was that the intracontizol?

Yeah. I'm tired and stressed out and was just trying to get it over with quickly. Ugh so stupid. :( I hope since this is her first dose she won't be poisoned. :(

Find the medicine name, then google 'name' overdose

Something will pop up.

I found this for Itraconazole overdose.

Overdosage/Acute Toxicity
- There is very limited information on the acute toxicity of itraconazole. Giving oral antacids may help reduce absorption. If a large overdose occurs, consider gut emptying and give supportive therapy as required. Itraconazole is not removed by dialysis. In chronic toxicity studies, dogs receiving 40 mg/kg PO daily for 3 months demonstrated no overt toxicity.
Drug Interactions - Itraconazole requires an acidic environment for maximal absorption, therefore antacids.

The medicine is Itraconazole. I can't find a lot of info on overdose in birds.

I called and texted my vet. No reply yet. Olive looks totally fine of course and just ate a couple almonds.

Found this about over dose in parrots.
Itraconazole (Sporanox): an oral antifungal agent used in the treatment of aspergillosis, candida, Cryptococcus in psittacines; may cause hepatitis, bone toxicit, hypokalemia (a lack of potassium in the blood, usually caused by excessive amounts of it being excreted, that leads to muscle weakness, heart irregularities, disorientation, and sometimes cardiac arrest)

Says to contact animal poison control if over dosed. :hug8:

She recommended I give her fatty foods with it, so that's what I've been doing. I hope that doesn't increase absorption though. I just thought that would help protect her liver.

I don't know if that works with birds too? Their digestive system is different than ours.

Are antacids safe?

Karissa is trying to get ahold of Jaime. She talked to Jaime's husband but not Jaime yet.
