Hello all,

I'm very happy to have found a nice active forum, it looks like there is lots of experience here in these pages.

Willow is about 15 weeks old now, he came to us as a parent-reared ten-week-old. He is gradually getting more used to us, but so far won't allow any rubs or scratches. He will accept food through the bars, and will eat seeds out of my open hand, but unless I'm holding food, he doesn't really want the hands anywhere near him. Progress is somewhat slower than I'd anticipated, but I'm going at his pace, and we're gradually getting there. Looking forward to getting to know you all, and your birds.

Yes, this is a great forum!
It might help to state the breed of bird Willow is. Not everyone coordinates their bird with their profile picture. You can also try posting on his breeds specific ¨street¨ so other owners of the same type of bird will be more likely to see it

Welcome to the site! Willow is very cute, indeed. Five weeks is really not that long of a time. If he was strictly parent reared, with not much interaction from people, it might take him longer to get use to your hands.

Yes, he came from a breeder whose birds all lived in aviaries, so he'd had very little direct interaction.

That explains his hesitation. When getting a tiel or any other bird from my local parrot store, they suggest coming in several times a week to get to know the bird, while it is being weaned. Sage advice.
