Help, what is wrong with my Canary’s feathers? (Sad update post # 4)

My canary - 8 years old - has started growing deformed ? Feathers ? - See photo below. I’ve never seen these before and don’t know what to do, more keep growing in
On close inspection when I grabbed him for a closer look, I can see small bits of dried blood in his wings
Anyone know what this is and how to help?
I’ve tried googling everything, I thought it might be straw feather but there is NO information out there

I would ask the vet to take a look.

I had a bird ( not a canary) that was older and started this. The sheath over the feathers was soft, you could crumble it off, but the feathers still wouldn’t open up. The vet said when he saw them like that, they didn’t grow in correctly (meaning it’s an age thing). Not saying that’s what is wrong with yours, just food for thought.

Do you give her vitamins, calcium and D3? Does she get baths?

I took him to the vet and he was put down sadly He had a lot of wounds in his wings from the feathers, wasn’t flying anymore, and over that last day seemed like he was starting to suffer
Still never found out what caused his feathers to deform like that

So sorry but 8 years for a canary is a pretty good life & no sense they suffer.
Sounds like it could have been associated from old age or complications. Never saw anything like that.
Vet could not give you any opinion?

They couldn’t really say, but seems like it must be an age thing. They were more worried about the wounds he got from them/dried blood under his wings. I tried googling +++ to no end, there’s not much information out there sadly
