Thanks everyone. We moved Zazu into a nursery box with a heating pad and handfeeding every few hours depending on how quickly he evacuates his crop.
Labored breathing with exertion but is overall in good spirits. I'm home with him during the day and working in the evening when my wife can take over. Thankful I have a job that allows me to do this.
He is doing a bit better. Nibbling more pellet and is clicking/bobbing head like he is happier. Going to continue formula if his crop is empty.
While in the nursery container, he was laying on his side with his wing up. Now that he's in this cage he isn't doing that so I think he was too warm. So we're going to let him stay in his cage today.
He has been an absolute trooper.
Zazu continues to improve. His breathing is still a little off when he exerts himself but he's whistling, whooping, bobbing and generally acting happier everyday. For the first time in a while, he slept snuggled up to my neck.
We had a scare yesterday. Came from from dinner and started the nightly ritual of cleaning cages. Looked in on Zazu and there was a big spot of blood on the fleece. Looking further, there was another spot.
My first thought was internal bleeding....my heart sank. We picked him up and the blood was all over his breast feathers. It turns out his bad foot which still has nails on it must have picked his foot and cut it. Because his foot is always under him, it prevented a major loss of blood.
The poor baby has been through so much over the past few weeks. But he does love his formula treat. Made him much happier after enduring the scrubbing and checking him out.
We both woke up during the night to check on him and he is fine.
