Hi Fellow Birdpeople, I'm a "mom"/caregiver of 2 CAGs: Zabar, 52, who was rehomed to me and my husband almost 3 years ago. He's blind in one eye, missing a couple of end toes and cannot fly, possibly due to pinioning? This February, Scarlett/Strawberry joined us. She was living in a closed down business for about a month, and her chest still looks like a grocery store chicken. We rescued her for $400.
My first big bird was a B&G macaw some years ago, Max. Broke my heart letting him go, so rescuing almost fell into my lap. CAGs are different and I'm always looking to learn more. I work from home so I'm with them most of the time. Since Z can't fly I bring him up and downstairs throughout the day with us in a carpet lined laundry basket. He's come a long ways from the cagebound, lunging biting feathered monster that I first met, bitten every single finger at LEAST twice but I didn't quit trying. He still won't or can't step up, and while still frightened at first, allows me scoop him up with a towel for cuddles and head rubs. S is sassy, nosy and smart. I have lights for them, have converted them to chop and bird bread.
So that's us! We live in Central Oregon and I wish I could safely take them paddle boarding so they didn't miss out. That's us!
