The WB have a baby. I still have to check the BN. I'll do it later after I feed all the tiels because by then they are used to alot of activity around their cage and are more willing to get off the nest for me to check.

I haven't checked inside the nestbox yet. But Daddy mouser was hanging on the side of the cage flapping his wings and holding on trying to get my attention. He went into the nest. In looking I can see a little head next to Mommy. I don't know if it is a new baby or the one from yesterday. They have added alot more bedding which has raised up the baby. I am working on a deeper cigar nestbox now...

I went back out and got some pix's The baby was moved (don't know if it crawled or parents moved) to the other side of the nest under Daddy mouser, and Mommy was sitting on the egg. Yesterday there was only the 1 egg and baby. I didn't look hard to see if it was hidden under bedding yesterday, but since there is still one egg, it is the case of another disappearing egg. :(

Look how the baby has changed since yesterday. More of the skin is darkening where the pin feathers will soon be emerging.

And, awful to say, but it looks plump like a Butterbal Turkey...LOL

Susanne I am in love with this thread.

There is something so VERY incredible about the start of life and so many of us have not experienced that with birds. So thank you for sharing all these moments with us.

I know it is much work and can be very sad as well, but when things turn out and you have a healthy bouncing baby it has to very rewarding.

Kristy,

Thanks! It is amazing to see the egg become a new hatchling and how they develope and grow. I am learning everyday as I do the pix's. And it is a pleasure to share the experience.

Awww Plump little lovie :swoon: Well I am certainly hoping the second egg hatches! Perhaps the disappeared eggs were eaten as perhaps they were infertile?

Missi, I am hoping the 2nd egg hatches too. yesterday it looked so tiny next to the baby.

And I had tried to get ahold of Kateri to find out if they did eat the shells and she said yes they do, and any infertile eggs. I know they tossed the one egg that was infertile, though the others were fertile so thats the mystery. With the WB they just leave the infertile eggs alone.

Hmmm...I was just reading that the babies can be sexed by the eggshell, but since the eggshell is gone I have to wait until the little ones are feathered.

In another couple of days I will have to be extra vigilant in watching the cage round the clock. By the time the baby is 7 days old it will be able to get out of the nest by itself. This cooler weather is no health, but even in normal room temps it is too low for a little one out by themselves...

I can't wait to see the change in the baby since yesterday... My guess is some of the pinfeathers should be emerging from the skin, we'll see soon.

The BN baby is growing, and now 4 days old :) I checked the remaining egg and the air cell is tilted so hopefully another hatch.

And I got a closeup (not totally clear) of the beak...it looks like a little Alien...LOL The parents sure can't miss that mouth when they feed it.

I love this thread too! I can't get over the change in just a few days.
I know when I was getting weekly updates on Kessie and the 2 lovies (Sherbert and Jellybean) I was constantly amazed by how much they changed in a week.
These mousers tho seem to change a lot DAILY!! Astounding!

OMG!...look at the size of that open beak and throat. The baby can fit all of Momma birds beak inside it's mouth! I've been trying to get a shot of them feeding for the past 2 days. Just when I get the camera up they are done or stop. Hopefully as the baby gets older I can get some more clear full head and open beak shots.

Kristy...yes, a breeder once told me the little ones can swallow anything as big as their head. I beleive the jaws are hinged like a snake (lack of the proper term) to expand to swallow larger sizes of food, if needed.

I want to observe as much as I can from the parents to get an idea on how to feed when I have to pull for handfeeding. Plus I'm trying to figure out how to use a DigiCam I have to maybe make some videos.

I'm trying to get as many Kodak Moments as I can becuase there is so little info on them because they are not a common bird like the parrot type birds. Most info is written and descriptive, but pix's show alot more.

Another shot...but it shows just the babies upper beak, and you can just barely see the swelling on the lower beak. Momma bird was watching me as I was watching them hoping for a clearer full head shot...
