Hi! I recently became the “parent” to a roughy 5-6 week old budgie. He has started regurgitating food on me, and while I know this is probably a normal behavior, I wanted to get a second opinion.

He does not seem to be in pain, or doing this involuntarily, but it’s happening quite a bit. Any help or advice as to why this is happening/if it requires a vet visit is greatly appreciated!!

I’m not sure why he’d be regurgitating. Perhaps he sees you as a sibling (was he parent reared; were there others in the clutch)? Is it on purpose or due to indigestion? None of mine that I got as babies did this.

Well to be honest, he was born from two of my budgies that I’ve had for a very long time. They have never before mated and have been of breeding age for years, so it was definitely unexpected. I’ve done my best at weaning him and his parents seem to be doing that as well, but his parents do occasionally still feed him so I’m wondering if it’s just an age related behavior? He was the only one in the clutch that hatched so maybe he does view me as a “sibling” of sorts.
