We just adopted an 27 year old Congo African Gray yesterday from a sanctuary. She was in a smaller cage with perches but seemed to prefer a specific one. We have her in a cage about 2x larger with 2 natural perches, different woods and sizes, 2 of the store perches that help with nails and beak those are also different shapes and sizes and she has one rope perch. She will only approach one of the natural perches and one of the store bought one. She prefers sitting atop of her cage.

She started chewing her feet, which I was told was semi normal, then she started chewing much more aggressively. So was checked her feet as she was crawling around and both have some redness, one appears maybe swollen with a larger red spot. She let me touch them without issue, isn't limping or favoring one. The one that I'm worried about isn't the foot she's chewing. Anyway, could this be early Bumblefoot, is it possible to get in 1 day? What other perch options should I offer her? How do I get her to perch on them and not the top of her cage?

She does have a portable perch with another natural wood perch on it and a rope swing but so far she treats it like the plague. She also has a little play gym with a dowel perch but she hasn't used it.

She's my first and I might be over thinking it but I want her to be healthy and comfortable.

My one year old CAG has a wide assortment of perches (natural , smooth, rope, etc.) and she routinely chooses the most uncomfortable looking place to perch. She also enjoys spending time on her cage top so I recommend you add a variety of perches and sizes (and toys) to the cage top. Save your fight for the curtain rods. I have no experience with foot issues or bumblefoot so please update your post so I may learn with you.

She is fine. Just new bird jitters for both of us. They're natural for her feet I guess since she's a little older. She is moving around great and using several of her perches now.
