Curious as to what the room temperature is, in the area Tequila is in, around the clock? Did the vet give him an injection of Baytril at the office and an injection of electrolytes? Sorry if I missed any of this info. as there are lots of posts.

Wishing Tequila a speedy recovery.
The room he is in is a constant 72 degrees. His cage is partially covered and he has fleece birdy buddies to cuddle up with when he wants to. Is it optimal,no. Is it the best I can do right now, yes. I bought a ceramic heat lamp but they didnt have the fixture so it has been ordered. I plan to do an extensive thread on being prepared for your birds illness before it happens. No they did not inject him with Baytril or electrolytes. His bloodwork should be back tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest and hope they will divulge more information.

Re: Tequila is not feeling well - Update post 89

Ok so here is my morning update. Had a very long sleep last night and took his formula and meds very well again. He seems to be staying awake more this morning. He had some warm brown rice and Quinoa this morning and also ate some sprouts on his own. He napped several times yesterday with his head tucked back so I was happy to see that. He has a nice quiet room to rest in and I would highly recommend that to anyone now that I have seen how much quieter it is for him. He is on the opposite end of the house than our other birds. Our living room is very empty without him there but not knowing for sure if what he has is contagious and also him needing his rest it was the best thing. So here is today's pic

Pat, you are doing great but It will speed recovery if you can find a way to keep his ambient temperature at 85-87 degrees. You can purchase a clamp on fixture at home depot for the heat emitter. Heat allows the bird to use it's energy stores for fighting infection rather than keeping warm.

Keep up the good work!

Oh thank you Gary I didnt think of looking there. We dont have a home depot but we do have a Lowes so guess who is getting their shoes on right now to go get one? :) He is looking brighter in the eyes today but would feel better knowing he is getting the additional warmth he needs.

Ok I bought the fixture. I took a pic of how I have it set up. do you think this is ok? I have a termometer in his cage right now. I am going to see if I can work from home tomorrow. I am afraid to leave this heat lamp on if we arent home.

Unless I let it cool and mess with it some more. The playtop poses some issues with me trying it from the top too. :(

Saroj, mine doesn't???
When it is on top of the cage, the tiel sits RIGHT on the cover of it
The bulb is hot of course, but they don't get to it

Danita, yours has to be very different from mine then. My ceramic ones are 250 watts and get blazing hot. The reflector will burn to the touch and once my elbow poked into the bulb I got third degree burns (well according to me). It was an ugly sight for three weeks and raw and painful and ..ugh. I never use them when the birds are out. Only during the night after checking all cages are escape-proofly shut.

mine say at least 18 inches away and then too monitor with a room thermometer.
The lamps are from avitec.com.
I see....your 120 watts is not as hot so that's why you can use it closer!!!
That solves the mystery :)

lol we wrote at the same time.
so sorry, my bad for assuming ALL ceramic bulbs are 250. Actually one time they sent me a 100W and it was a lot smaller in size and very soft warmth.
Sorry about the confusion. I just woke up and need coffee :o:

Pat check the rating on the reflector and make sure it can handle the bulb's wattage.
I leave mine on all day if I need to in deep winter to give Jackson 80-85 degrees.
